Sentinels are one of those units in the current guard codex that are good, and I think this will make them great.
Make them actually fulfill their fast attack slot and make them fast! Picture em being able to move 12". Combined with their weapon options and tar pitting abilities, it could really make them great.
Also as an aside it would be neat to see them as part of a platoon as well under a new unit type "dedicated escort"
Any thoughts?

I think that would be pretty cool to make scout sentinels 12" movement.
make it a little different from the armored ones.
they will still get shot to hell but i think they will be more useful off the outflank or what not.

So make them Fast Walkers? You know what, I've heard worse ideas. I think I like it. How do you resolve what happens when they move through difficult terrain though?
Also, FYI, this belongs in 40k Proposed Rules. EDIT: Wait... was I in Proposed Rules all along?

Always been a big fan of sentinels. 12" would go a long way to giving them viable angle shots against side armour without having to outflank.

I like it, but is 12" a bit much? Maybe something more inkeeping with the skitarii dragoons?

I kind of like the idea of making Sentinels a *troop* choice, and allowing them the option to take a single Special Weapon (Meltagun/Grenade Launcher/Heavy Stubber/etc).
Heavy Sentinels being Heavy Support, an extra HP, and having the option for two Heavy Weapons. Like a heavier, less efficient War Walker.
And a Stormtrooper version of the Sentinel, with Deep Strike, optional Jetpack move, and better BS.

I don't think it's too much, I mean they are small fast moving scout vehicles they should def be able to out pace a tank and dread.

I think he means a 9" move, which is the same that a Skitarii Dragoon has. Faster than a tank moving and shooting, but not as fast a Skimmer.

12" seems about right given that they are a fast attack choice.
That said some kind of secondary weapon would be just as welcome, giving them an increase in firepower.

I don't know if they really need a second weapon, however I wouldn't mind perhaps the option of giving them some kind of close combat weapon. That gives them an extra attack. That would be scary a fast moving walker that is almost immune to overwatch fire....

Sentinels just aren't made for melee. Giving them melee weapons is just silly.
The 12" movement is a decent idea though. It doesn't break anything.

They used to be able to get chainsaw attachments in the 4th edition Codex: Imperial Guard if taken with the Hardened Fighters doctrine.

While true, Sentinels don't even have arms. They'd just be too unwieldy to be practical.
Then again this is 40k.

Just make them cheaper points wise. They already work as a better version of HWTs (can move and shoot, no morale problems, more durable, better LoS).

The problem is though: How much cheaper can they reasonably go?
A simple 12" movement and the ability to take a secondary weapon (like a Flamer, Melta, Heavy Stubber or Plasma Gun) would go a long way to fixing them.
