Rumor has it that much of the Brettonian line may go the way of the Tomb Kings - but seeing use as the Brotherhood in Kings of War.

GW has been mismanaging Warhammer for quite some time now - and are blaming the game instead of how it was being managed.

The thing is... the Tomb Kings were a good army, solid and flexible - it was more how Warhammer 8 treated them than anything wrong with the army itself

Likewise, the Brettonians.

Kings of War is treating them better than their parent game was.

There is not this idea.

It's a real shame on both, but not surprising. Well, that's the direction they want to move, and that's why I've mainly moved over to KoW.

On topic, I'm still enjoying the unit reviews. I've been wondering about the ratkin weapons team lately; is there any reason not to use storm of lead if you're using them? Cost still seems pretty low, and piercing is always useful, I think.

I wouldnt be surprised if more boxes are going that way this year. I was actually gonna get some of those cobra surfers for my GFs army but put me off and even on last chance I cant bring myself to do it. Might look for a second hand one.

I know the reviews have been late but I will put a bunch up tonight. Im aiming for at least 3.

Worm riders, A dwarf unit and the rat teams.

On a note with the rat teams unless you are really bare for points storm of lead is a no brainer choice. Especially good for flying monster hunting. But who knows, i will look into it.

Im also gonna try adding in a math section at the end of these reviews just for the more precise minded.

One thing about that Height 3 - it makes the Diadem of Dragonkind attractive - you can use it over the head of a screening unit. (And it is even more attractive for the Revenant Champion on Worm - where you only give up 7 Attack for Breath Attack 10.)

Because EoD has Surge to spare, you can fire over the head of a screening unit, then Surge that screening unit into close combat.

Or you can make the Champion all but unkillable with Ensorcelled Armor....

Ah, the Battle Driller - my only negative comment is an edition out of date. It should have gotten a bonus for destroying walls in the Siege rules that were in the old hardcover for first edition.

I think its much better putting the diadem on a mounted hero for that purpose personally or the Worm rider champion. Otherwise you are making a unit good for points more expensive for something they aren't really good at. But yes height 3 is a great height for diadem since you can fire over most units with safety this is true, but I think you also need the right unit for it.

Champion with 6+ armour is a good choice I think. Most units wont like to face that at all.

Yea battle driller is surprisingly ok. Im gonna try one as a test anyway to see just how good.

I like to float my Diadem around - and having it on a 5+ Defense model... with plenty of Surge... can be worthwhile. (Not as a steady diet - I am generally more likely to put it on the Standard bearer - but people have started assuming that my Standard Bearer is the one wearing the Diadem*....)

Mostly, I like making the Champion on Worm Inspiring - but then there is always a need for someone with Inspiring.

(My three main Magical Artefacts are Ensorcelled Armour, Diadem of Dragonkind, or Crown of Inspiring, though Wings of Honeymaze and/or Boots of Levitation also see use. (The idea of a Flying Serpent Surfer is more for amusement than use.)

At this point... EoD is purely conjectural - I am only going by what I have used in my (too many!) other armies.

The Auld Grump - having extra armies means being able to loan an army to people to try the game....

I just backed the Oldhammer halflings Kinckstarter.

Only an hour left, and the sculptor used to live around my neck of the woods, back when he was sculpting for Demon Blade.

Which means... Rhordia....

I would love to see you do a quick review on those hobbits, I really hope to see some of them around my area one day.

Delay on the reviews, been doing other KOW related stuff but they will be back hopefully today if it's quiet.

You mean the siege rules that were clearly written during a coffee break on a cocktail napkin? Hard to believe they didn't include rules for the driller.

And that entire armies could only stand outside the walls, and shout insults? (You needed cannon to destroy stone walls... which was pretty much dwarfs, those other dwarfs, and Kingdoms of Men... and wights, because they were strong enough to tear through stone walls in hand to hand....*)

But to me, the Battle Driller only makes sense for sapping - chasing people down with a giant drill just seems silly....

* Iron Watch Magazine addressed this problem in Issue #1 - which were the rules that I actually used for wall destruction.

Finally got the ratkin Teams up:

http://councilofwar.blogspot.co.nz/2016/02/unit-review-18-ratkin-weapon-team.html

Mummies are up next followed by halfling knights.

Gonna do some tactics about not moving in KOW today too.

I play dwarfs... they are naturally gifted in regards to not moving.

The Auld Grump - which makes the Brock all that more impressive....

Yes that is true haha, although it always surprises me how fats Brocks are. The pudgy little mounts really pack a bit of speed!

Im having a hard time articulating my thoughts on the tactics but when it comes out good im sure it will be interesting.

Nice job on the ratkin teams. Kind of goes along with what I was thinking, and keeping them as an anti flyer measure in the rear totally makes the most sense. I'd been using them in from in an attempt to soften up bigger blocks, but that almost always meant losing them quickly.

Honestly, they're a unit I like to use just because I like them. They're adorable little evil guys.

Correct, moving them to the front is both slow and dangerous so in a way you are limited to back field for a lot of the game. But this is actually best for them in the end anyway I think.

Yea I like the idea of having them too most lists I have tried. Many cool model opportunities.

Steel Behemoth is another of those beasties that are hard to categorize - too slow for the job it needs to do... but nigh invulnerable.... (I have taken it three times, once to effect (it parked on the objective and held it) and twice to no effect (never got in range). But I never had it get damaged enough to rout or even to think about wavering....

So, thoughts on the Steel Behemoth?

The Auld Grump - it is another really fun unit to make a model for... I used an old Grendel model for it.
