TL;DR. Ideas for affordable Forstgrave terrain if you'd be so kind

Righty, my order of Frostgrave models has arrived - so no more borrowing!

I'm interested in building terrain for Frostgrave (or at least obtaining some pre-made pieces) to build a city. Unfortunately the only producer of official terrain for the game is rather pricey ( here ) and the 4Ground alternatives are a little plain and pricey (here)

Games Workshop no longer appear to sell the Wizards Tower kit (poor timing GW!) as well as a fair amount of their previous fantasy terrain. I'm not too keen on the Sigmar style (though the Orphidian Gate is quite nice). GF9 used to also do some awesome ruined terrain but it seems to have been discontinued (poor timing GF9 too!)

I've seen some people buying fishtank ornaments and painting them - I may do this, though it's quite limited by the scale and variation between the ornaments (there's aren't many of the right size and there isn't much variety to choose from).

This really only leaves me with HirstArts and their moulds for making terrain segments. I think they look rather good, though it's not a process I've ever done before. They're appealing as it's quite hands-on and a new skill to learn, however the moulds are not cheap and I would need a couple of them for variation. In addition, I'm in the UK which may or may not affect availability, postage and so on.

Has anyone else found any good, realistic (and possibly chunky terrain made out of strong material - not cardboard!) that they use for ruins?

Take a look at pegasus hobbies. Their stuff if flexible, cheap enough, can be built as intact or ruined buildings and is plain enough for a few genres or can be vajazzled to get it looking great for a specific one.

Hirst has international shipping for $34/£24 for 1-5 molds - effectively, you're adding the cost of an extra mold to your order. However, with minimal care, they'll last forever.

Using them is a breeze after your first casting or two. Mix your casting material (gypsum cement is my usual), pour, give it 1-5 minutes to settle, scrape the top, then 15-30 minutes later demold. Let the demolded pieces sit overnight (allows any moisture remaining in the pieces to evaporate), and they're ready for assembly the next day.

For Frostgrave, the best molds are probably in the Fieldstone Molds line. With the Ruined Fieldstone Mold #75 and Fieldstone Wall Mold #70, you'll have all the parts you need for just about any Frostgrave appropriate terrain.

Mini Monsters (you can also find them on their eBay store) has some nice looking resin terrain. While it's mostly fantasy village stuff, they also have a number of ruined set dressing terrain (columns, walls, and such) that'll work. Good prices, too.

I had to look up that term Alex, was not disappointed. I'll get some mini stick-on diamonds for the treasure tokens from Anne Summers.

Those Fieldstone molds are gorgeous Carlson, thanks for narrowing it down - I've been a bit daunted thinking I'd need lots of molds for different elements. You make the casting sound easy

Glad to have 'helped', I hope you looked up the terrain too!

The stuff from Amera (http://www.amera.co.uk/product.php?range=f) has been used to good effect by Harry ( or Hastings, one or the other)in his Frostgrave stuff. Can't get a link of his painted stuff as Warseer is dead ATM, but there are a few on the Amera site incidentally. It is vac formed, but it appears to be good stuff.

The hirst stuff is awesome to make things - also if you check the site, it has some 'plans' you can see that will tell you what molds to get if you want a certain shape. Also the explanations of how to use them are well done on the site. Lots of good advice.

Otherwise, you can make quite easy and fairly cheap terrain with foamboard, mdf, and other items. You can check out a lot of youtube videos for how tos - highly recommend the terrain tutor, DMs Craft among others.

Another option as well - check ebay and such for bits from the various GW terrain sets and the like. Those make good starts for terrain as well.

Good luck and have fun!
