Hello all!!

Little background of the subject.
I am looking to make a 30k death guard army that can be played for fluff but not totally suck in games. I was thinking more of a pre-heresy army but playing them post heresy is also up for grabs.

I understand the Death Guard to be very "at whatever cost" and use chemical war-fare.

I was thinking of purchasing the BaC since it's a good value.

Was wondering where I should go from there in order to make a fluffy list.

I think of Death Guard as a trench-fighting kind of army, correct me if I am wrong on that.

I that a destroyer squad of 5
breacher squad of 10
and a legion rapier battery would fit in with the whole theme

I understand all legions used essentially all the different things available but I would like to keep it in the Death Guard fluff

Any help at all is super helpful

ok, being that I have so much DG I can help out:

1) EVERYTHING in 30k is fairly usefully, there is nothing that "sucks"

2) DG weren't trenches as much as they were "everyone, keep marching!"

3) DGs fluffy units (as confirmed by books) are 20-man tactical squads with apothecaries (they liked multiples of '7'), destroyers, heavy support teams, flamer support teams, they weren't to fond of anything easily breakable, and DG fielded the most terminators.

4) Every "basic" troop was trained to do everything that wasn't specialized, assault marines, support teams, and tacticals all had the exact same training. Due to mortarion's love of the "well equiped and trained" infantry man, almost alway bring extra CCWs on your tac squads (who should generally foot slog it and be rather large) Additionally, Mortarion saw Dreadnoughts as "superb" infantry and used a lot of them. Transports were used, but not usually.

Personally, for my generic DG list, I run a few dreads, at LEAST 2 20-man tac squads, and some terminators. maybe a heavy support team or destroyer squad or two.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Hmmmm very interesting! Where did you find the background info only because I'd love more fluff to read.

When you say everyone would have a CCW, would you say this is more of a modeling opportunity?

what weapons should I give my Dreads

A lot of it was in the recent HH books from FW and some of the novels. when I say "everyone would have a CCW" I mean every tactical marine would have a bolter, pistol, and CCW. I like all of the weapons available, if you can get one, 3 dreads with flamestorm cannons next to a promethium pipeline is just silly.

IIRC in betrayal it stated while the death guard's mode of warfare preferred infantry over vehicular combat; they fielded Spartans and Vindicators in disproportionate numbers.

There is no Zuul, there is only war!
