Hey guys does anyone have a suggestion for a model knee deep in water? I am having a brain fart with this and I do not want to just chop his feet off lol.

I need to go to work every day.

Glue on base then do the bottom on the water feature on base.(river bed etc.)
Get some sort of tube that fits around that base and pour some sort of water effect in?
Probably a terrible idea.

You can get hollow bases like the ones from Secret Weapons: http://thecombatcompany.com/categories/secret-weapon/bases/hollow-blanks.html
Add some texture with e.g. Vallejo Earth, fix the model, pour Vallejo still water into the hollow base: http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/water-_-stone/family/21
You can add a tiny amount of wash into the water to color it a bit.

How deep is knee deep in Mm/cm?
Do not pour in glues or water effects to the full depth. Do it 0.5cm pours and let them dry entirely.

Thanks a ton guys.
Well my wife bought me the starter collection of tyranids that comes in tuesday. I want them mid the devouring. They won and thus beguins the consuming. So they all need to be semi knee deep in water/digesting juices.

what buttery said
lots of thinner layers work best (dries better overall as well)
and becareful if you use glue (like as a filler) it shrinks a good bit I've found, best to stick with water effects
Sounds like it'll be suitably disgusting =D

Using gloss varnish will make surfaces look "wet", and it's a lot easier than casting water effects. If you have a horde to paint up it might be a big time saver.

I am just scraping the top layer of this problem as well with my Brazen Claws (making swamp bases). What I experienced up to now is that Vallejo Still Water is really cool, but dampens in a lot. Check my WIP Brazen claws forum post in "Painting & Modelling" and you will see what I mean .

Finished Brazen Claws: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/678288.page
WH40k: Dark Angels, Tau Empire, Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Necrons, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Orkz, Brazen Claws (at least 1850 points per army) |

Yes you have to do multiple very thin layers. You can also build up a bit the center of the pool.

If you look at some of the Naval Modeling sites (model warships.com for instance), you can find tutorials on doing water-line bases for full-hulled ships.
AND... Those guys know how to make some surprisingly realistic water (it will freak you out to see some of it).
But I would imagine if you don't want to cut the knees off, then doing something like they do for full-hulled ships that they create waterline bases for would work.

You might find this useful.

This way you can still see the details that are under the water

A hollow base like the Secret Weapon ones, or the Dark Age bases are the first step. Envirotex lite is a two part clear epoxy that works perfectly for this and is easily found at most craft stores. Add a bit of ink to the resin to dirty it up if you like.
