Hey all, so I recently traded off my tau starter for the KDK codex and the start collecting khorne set, looking to figure out how to expand. I love the look of Bezerkers but I hear a lot of negativity about them, is anyone having success with them? More importantly, how would you suggest expanding from here?

Thank you all!

Either a landraider or dreadclaw for their transport. It's a good chunk of points but works,

You really can't. The regular Marines benefit from the Tithe points more, have more flexibility in wargear, and don't cost an arm and a leg for just being an MEQ body.

The best you can get is 8 barebones with a meltabomb sarge in rhinos with havok launcher or combi-weapon. Turn 1 you move forward 6, disembark 6, run forward. Turboboost or shoot with a rhino. This way you have fearless zerkers in the middle of the map providing some target saturation and tithe points. So does rhino - it can add a bit to shooting, score and provide cheap tithe points. Zerkers are sure not amazing but they can still do something if you really want to run them.

Another option is unfluffy - go full 20, add in Cypher and something for invisibility or fnp. Bam! You have a fearless invisible/fnp shrowded blob with hit and run and a freaking ton of s5 attacks. Expensive. But a lot of fun. I've had success with slaanesh marines in this role.

The main problem with Berserkers is that they easily cost at least about 2-3pts/model too much for what you get, and then get to further compound it by having to pay a frankly insulting additional 'tax' per model to even get their signature weapons!
If they were maybe 18pts/model with the Chainaxe included, you'd see people use them. Unfortunately, they're only what, 2 or 3pts/model shy of a god damned Possessed Marine with their chainaxe!

And then add to it that your only delivery option outside of FW is a 220+pts Land Raider (that only carries 10 dudes max, making adding in any character support a bloody nightmare). And the only time Berserkers are ever even remotely dangerous is IF they can pull off the charge.

They're simply a massively overcosted unit that's still trying to play the game like it's 4th edition.

I'd say 17 points a model is fair. The truth is this edition has not been kind to foot slogging combat units, and chaos lack of cheap or reliable methods of delivery compound this. The thing that hurts them the most is that they can't assault out of an unmoved transport like in 5th. This makes Rhinos an useless transport for them since they need to stand around a turn and eat a round of fire.

I run mine assaulting out of a dreadclaw which has good impunity to SD. If you use the BL supplement you can run Chosen as troops and they are really good in melee.

Bummer to hear! What khorne units can be fluffy and effective?

Half the daemons - especially dogs and soulgrinders. 8 bloodletters are also great. Khorne marines are not too bad cause they still get melta and are cheaper than zerkers. They likely won't get to melee (too) but are at least cheaper and provide much needed melta. Bikers and spawns just cause they're good from the start. Raptors to a lower extent but still passable. Khorne lords are great - just don't overinvest. Cultists are fine and can surprisingly for your opponent go nuts and punch like ork boyz when they get buffed. Still quite expensive for their durability - like most khorne units. KDK is an army of msu glass cannons that can occasionally spawn some more glass cannons or get fnp and become less glassy.

Sadly the majority of the "mortal" aspect of khorne daemonkin are pretty subpar, with bikers and the khorne lord being pretty much the only decent choices (if we're talking about marines and not guys in general, in which case cultists and chaos spawn ain't bad). It's sad to see iconic khornate units like berserkers be left in the dirt but its a general trend that plagues most of the CC oriented armies. So far it seems that only loyalist marines are getting the most rules to compensate for the shortcomings of CC this edition, what with the vanguard vets getting reasonably priced PW costs to go with cheap jump packs in addition to getting a formation that allows them to assault out of deep strike, the skyhammer formation and now more recently space wolves wulfen have gotten crazy CC gear and old fleet built in.
