I'd LOVE for Palp SHuttle and 3 aces to be a thing, but you can't get the aces cheap enough.

Do you mean, like, SPECIFIC Aces? (with specific builds)
Because if the Shuttle with Palp is 29 points, shouldn't you be able to fit 3 aces in with 70 points? (unless, of course, you're supposed to load up the Shuttle with stuff as well)

Sure you can use epsilon leader to remove stress from Soontir. But that means I know exactly where Fel will be. And that is a dead Fel.

The green on a tie/in is good enough for you not to worry about it.

Palp shuttle 29
Inquisitor w/ Title and Autothruster 28
Omega Leader w/Comm Relay and Juke is 26
That leaves 17 points. Scourge maybe?

Then again, all three 'aces' would be fragile... is Palpatine's ability enough to save them from lethal damage? And if so, then you aren't using Palpatine's ability offensively.

I'm totally antsy awaiting these things to be delivered.
(don't want to go out and get more ships until after they get here, lest I give away the fact that I know what she's getting me).

In the mean time, experimenting with list building.
I think the first thing I want to do after I get my hands on them is to try out a version of each ship I'm interested in to see how it performs.
Being the case, if you had to build a 100 point list that incorporated the following TIEs:
1x Adv. Prototype
1x Advanced
1x Interceptor
1x FO
What would some good things to equip them with?
(not super competitive builds, just stuff that would allow me to see how each ship should be handling. I can theory craft all I want, but I have a feeling I won't know for sure which ships I'm going to want to use until I've taken them for a test drive).

Assuming that you'll proxy what you need, these are probably the best builds for each of the ships.

TIE Adv. Prototype Inquisitor w/ Title and Autothruster and Juke 30
TIE Advanced Vader, Predator, Title, ATC, Engine 37
TIE Interceptor Soontir Fel PTL, Title, Stealth Device and Autothruster (35)
TIE/FO Omega Leader w/Comm Relay and Juke 26

Each of those builds are aces.

If you don't want to give things away, see if you can find the original Core Set before you buy some fun stuff.

Thanks, that should give me a better idea of how to build various lists.

But if I've got the new core set coming, why would I need to get a copy of the old core set?

R2-D2
Tie pilots.

In that order.

But... I wanted to play Imperials
(.__. )

(unless you're saying this would be valuable for trading for some of the hard to get Imperial stuff)

You will find that no-one is faction monogamous in this game. That said, if you wanted to play Imperials only to start, the extra dice Templates and TIE's are worth getting the old starter for.

Yeah, this is not like 40K. You can have all factions rather easily, and cards from other packs you'll want anyway.

I'm mainly a Rebel player, and yet I had a lot of fun playing Imperials last week, and since packs are under 20$ each, you might as well get them...

Wait, I see you're in the land of the rising sun. I have no idea how much a pack goes for over there. Regional prices might change, I assume.

Quuuuite expensive, so I can't just pop off to my LGS and pick them up on a whim.
The one coming were ordered off of Amazon US. Being the case, I want to minimize unnecessary purchases if I can (international shipping is not cheap)

Still looking up how certain things all interact with each other, but I think I'm getting the theory side of this thing down.

If you want legit copies of all of the cards you'll want to use, buying only one faction is impossible. For example, if you want to give Vader an engine upgrade:

Is there not a market for these cards to be found online?

There are sellers on Ebay, but they make a profit on the cards. It is often cheaper just buying the ship. They sell the ships (models, stands, and tokens, but not the upgrade cards) relatively cheap... a good alternative if you go route #2.
If you are into official Tourney play, then you need the cards. If not, then use proxies to your hearts content. That is route #2.
There is also a thriving community on Vassel... if you want to play with your ships digitally.

There are some sellers like that, but you wind up paying a large percentage of the price of the ship. The problem is that after you've sold the one or two cards out of a pack that people want tons of copies of, the remainder of the pack is going to be really hard to sell. People who want the ship itself probably also want those high-demand cards, so they'll just buy the ship rather than the opened-up parceled-out parts. The market value of a remainder of the ship pack is therefore going to be really low.

You'd think.

Someone was selling the Raider, and really just the Raider, for close to 60 US$ at one point. The guy was selling the Tie Adv., tokens, dial and pilot cards as another package.

I don't know how much that box goes for at retail in the US (I know, I could check) but it being close to that price for a full package brand new, I failed to see the point.

Yeah, I was seeing the TIE Advanced and its' related cards from the Raider going for like $50-60 plus shipping. Considering I can get the whole thing for the equivalent of around $80 I didn't bite. It IS a fair chunk of cash to drop all at once, but luckily it comes with 4 copies of the title so I'd only need one.

I'm really enjoying running a three of Storm w/title and Accuracy corrector. Fits well with one of the cheaper aces, and I feel that they can go toe to toe with the same number of points of TLT Y's.

Been looking through all the various ship + pilot + upgrades/etc. out there and I believe I have my favorites (typically involves some combination of TIE f/o, Interceptors, and Advances).

Ran across the mini ranker site and saw my ideas were... hardly original.
:/

Anyway, just wondering what people's thoughts on how the TIE Adv.Prototype coming out might affect the meta?
Is this thing going to be game changing and I should look into getting a second (perhaps even third)?
Or would is more likely going to be a nifty addition that might come in handy as a supplement to a list that might have been struggling to find a ship to best fill a role?
(what does this thing want to be doing, and can it do it better than anything else currently available?)

I don't really think that you'll see more than one TIE Adv. Prototype in a list (and that being the Inquisitor). Valen Rudor is interesting, but mediocre. You want those free actions BEFORE you get shot at, not after. Besides, you won't be getting many free actions when you only have 4 hit points to begin with. The generic that has been revealed is... generic. Possibly use it as a blocker... but it really is too expensive for that compared to an Academy TIE. (PS 1 on the TIE compared to PS 2 on the Sienar Test Pilot makes a huge difference as well).
The Inquisitor is great only because he is always getting 3 dice attacks and denying you your range 3 evade dice. This neatly sidesteps Autothrusters on other Aces as well. It has a great dial, but lack of a systems slot hurts it compared to the TIE Advanced. The difference in hull makes a surprising amount of different in the TLT meta, too.
