Starting an escalation league. First round is 500 points, limited to 1 FA, 1 HS, 1 Elite and no flyers. The board will be 24" x 24" and the mission is purge the alien. Lists must be battle forged.

Chaos Lord - 150
Mark of Nurgle, Sigil of Corruption, Bike, Powerfist

Cultists x10 - 50
Close combat weapon, autopistol

Cultists x10 - 50

so I'm fairly new to the whole warhammer 40k game but after playing a couple 500 point games I plan on using this list for my next game. I think it will perform pretty good for a small 500 point game. I like your list but I think it lacks a little bit of power and I think MON is borderline waste of points.

Here is what I would personally run.

Chaos lord - Bike, power sword

5 x csm - melta gun
Rhino - dozer or havoc launcher

10 x cultists - auto pistols

3 x bikers - 2 x melta guns

maulerfiend

Just my two cents, if you can't get your hands on a maulerfeind then run the vindicator instead.

MoN is useful because it means that MEQ wound on 6s.

Maulerfiend might be useful though. I don't own one but I've been thinking of picking one up. The large blast and strength 10 make the vindicator great for mid range armor busting and character killing, but the maulerfiend would be great for supporting the bikes.

Missunderstanding, MON is great and I wouldn't run my bikes,lord on a bike or spawn without it. What I meant to say was at 500 points I'm not sure it's worth It. I think it's better to allocate those points for more units or fire power. I think at 500 points board presence and fire power is more important than spending 25 points on a power first and x points on MOK on both the lord and the bikers. I just think 2x meta guns on the bikes is better then MON or A power first. If you loose the lord say bye bye to all those points. Once again I'm not super experienced in warhammer but at 500 points I think bare bones, fire power and board presence is the way to go. As for the vindicator I think it's great idea I'm just a huge fan of fast paced in your face heavy hitters. Nice threat on the table at 500 points to go along with the bikers.

Certainly you raise a good argument, I'll admit that it is a lot of points in one basket and it's a dangerous risk. The combination is potent against multiple targets though. He can instant death most of his contemporaries and can eat a ton of punishment. The trick is to deliver him intact. At 500 points though he'll eat through most opponents. I personally value durability over numbers but they're both viable tactics.

I recently picked up the demonkin book so need some demon engines as it is. I just wish it was AV13 on the front. The 12 inch move will eat up the board and streamline the army. The main problem now is finding the funding .
