Just as the title says. i came across a BEAUTIFUL 1ksons army that i will be swapping for. i want it to be fluffy. thus far there are 3 9-man squads- is that possibly in 30k or will i need to add a tenth man.

also, what weapons were the support groups known for back then? did they rely heavily on tanks or transports? dreadnoughts? any other fluffy bits i should know about?

thus far, they have been assembled with mkiii-mkiv armor and the GW 1ksons upgrades- shoulderpads, helmets, loin cloths, etc...

what would be some awesome things i can do to make this more HH like in terms of fluff?

ogryn flesh: like beer goggles for miniatures.

ok. It sounds like you are buying a 40k 1ksons army and want to use it in 30k. So here is a crash course in what you need to know.

Tac Squads are 10-20 guys, everyone but the srg only have Bolter&Bolt Pistol. They can be upgraded to have a Knife and that's it. No special or heavy weapons in these squads. The Srg get's a huge list of gear to choose from.

They are the cheapest for the core units, and the only squads you will prob be able to make from that army.

Special Weapon Squads are Troop Choices, but they can not be used as compulsory troops. They are 5-10 guys all with flamers, can replace all the flamers with a diff sepcail weapon. You can't mix special weapons, they all have to be the same. This is a huge issue with people who are trying to convert a existing 30k army to 40k because one squad may be holding more plasma-guns then most 40k armies have in total in one squad.

Heavy Weapon Squads are Heavy support, they all have heavy bolters, 5-10 guys. Same Idea as special weapon squads.

As for fluff....

In 30k the 1ksons were Red. I don't think it has even been stated when they switched to blue, but I always assumed that happened well after the HH with the Rubric. So in other words if your useing HH rules, it's unfluffy for them to be anything but red I belive.

As for the Sacred Number stuff....Just isn't a thing in 30k, so just forget about it IMHO. It's never mentioned in any of the novels, and IMHO sacred number squad size is just a hokey crunch thing that never had any bearing on the fluff even in 40k. Not to mention this is 30k, they are still learning how the whole chaos thing works.

As for organization, they liked using Liberians, and in 1ksons novel they go into great depth about how the liberians in the 1ksons were organized and functioned. They were bassicly the leaders/commanders of the legion. Alot of cool fluff, but nothing that you can relay represent on the table top with the core list. You can't use Liberians as a compulsory HQ. =C

Maby hold off till this week end before commiting to anything 1Ksons? They will be previewing the burning of Prespero Book at the HH weekender.

larger blobs of tacticals (TS were small, but we still had quite a few large infantry squads)

Beyond that TS were foot sloggy and ranged, so build like that if you want to be mostly fluffy. It's that simple. so long as you include at least 1 librarian console, you should be set.

the only blue 1ksons (from the fluff I remember) are those who are loyal to ahriman rather then magnus, IIRC.

I agree on mostly holding off, but there are things that every legion has (tacticals, termiantors, and dreads) that are fairly safe bets. Don't go to specialized or heavy on one aspect, only to have the legion rules limit the number of X you can take, for example.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

yeah, they were built with 40k in mind, but they all have pre-heresy armor on and are painted red. i figured i just needed to add a few dudes to the units to make them more 30k-like. aside from the 3 squads i mentioned, i am gettin a whole smattering of more preheresy armor sons that have 40k special weapons, so i am considering taking 3 of them and giving them boltguns to fill the squads out to 10, and the using the remaining ones as the support groups when i decide which weapons to equip them with. thanks!

Long range weapons on foot- or tanks? were they heavy with walkers? i do love me some dreads (although, i also have Iron hands I can use that for)

It's only 4 more days until the preview! lol We might get told a general idea of their rite of war during the seminar, or a feel for what their special units will be.

sounds good, I was concerned for a sec that maby you were buying someone's "count-as 1ksons" Grey Knights or something.

@lockhark- nah, they're all mkiii/mkiv armor with the GW thousand sons POST- heresy helmets. painted in a heresy-era color scheme (so red). all the blotguns are heresy-era too. the only new GW bits on them are the 1ksons upgrades and the special weapons... there's about 13 marines with that loadout. so, i'm going to take them and use 3 to fill out the other 9-man squads and use the remaining 10 to make two specialist/suppoprt squads...

make sense?
