Subject: Can markerlights be fired in overwatch?

I was playing a friendly game and my opponent told me that he thought markerlights won't work in overwatch. I tend argued that they could and I read the rules out loud for what markerlights do in the codex, and he said pretty much "I mean I still remember there being something in the codex that stops them from using them in overwatch, but whatever."
Is there some rule that keeps markerlights from firing overwatch? I felt a bit bad because I'm new, and I didn't want to be breaking the rules, and though I thought this is legal I can see why it wouldn't be.

No, there isn't a rule that keeps markerlights from firing overwatch.

You can use them in overwatch, however you can't use them to raise your BS

The codex does say you can, but you still have to adhere to the fact that the unit firing the markerlights can't use their own markerlights. You'd have to use supporting fire to fire markerlights, and then have a second unit firing overwatch use them.

Yep, you can use them exactly like any other model firing overwatch.
Raise BS, Ignore cover, not sure about firing seeker missiles but i don't use them anyway.

Why couldn't I markerlight a guy with the unit being charged and have the guys next to them get the BS boost?
You can do that, its exactly like using them in the shooting phase
