Imperial Recruit in Training
Canada

Hello all,
This is my working build for my first Imperial Guard army, right now I'm just trying to get a good feel for the faction along with meeting my aesthetic / doctrinal preferences. Anyways, I am welcome to all sorts of criticism on how to refine the army to function better during games, ideas for reserves to augment for particular situations (I am reading through as much as I can here) or anything else you may be able to come up with.
Thanks for taking a look.

ALRIGHT well I think you've got some fairly decent stuff here, but of course I'm gonna show you how you can save some further points!
-Remove ALL plasma pistols and power swords from your list, ain't gonna do yourself much and you're tossing 30 points on very close-combat/range orientated dudes with T3 and I3, though if you were going to do a blob squad, then power axes would be great! (Though you need 30 dudes for that preferably)
-Swap those Heavy Bolters for Autocannons. Why? Better Strength and better range. More threats to vehicles then!
-Make ALL the sentinels autocannon dudes, cause more shots and usually they'll be at flanks so good times then!
-Remove Mortar team, get the wyvern, unless it's for fluff/modelling/money reasons! A better option most would agree!
-Remove those Multi-Melta sponsors from those LRBTs as they're ordnance weapons, so will mean multimeltas will snap shot, and also they're only 24 inches range, whilst the battle cannon is 72 INCHES. ALSO the demolisher and battle tank are two quite different versions, one is long range, the other s fairly short, so either make both tanks short range, or both tanks long range!
-With all those extra points, could be best to replace most of those snipers with much better weaponry, such as plasma guns, heavy flamers, and such.
-Maybe it's best to only have one doctrine per vet? Can be a pretty hefty point sink then! Carapace is pretty darn good I'd say, though depends on what boards you play on with what terrain.
-Removing a bunch of what I said means you could throw in a lot more to your army! Maybe more men for your Platoon of regular dudes, Chimeras and better weapons for your vets, think on that!

Whoa, I didn't even realize you could take multiple doctrines on vets till this thread! I'm pretty sure the 5th ed codex explicitly said only one of the three, but this time it says any of the following! Huzzah!

What Sampson said is excellent.
My comment for thee is in regards to Tank Commander Squadron: Remove the Demolisher and replace it with another standard Battle Tank. Also remove the multi-melta sponsons, you won't be needing those.
I know that the standard Battle Tanks are not considered the most efficient points-wise, but man, three Str 8 Ap3 large blasts slamming a target each turn, that'll hurt.
When you get a battle in with your list please report back on the results, especially how your tank squadron fares!

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!
*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs. |

Try looking at the imperial guard armored battle group detachment if you are looking for a tank army list, also they have armored fist squads. Or if you are looking for a bit of a variety, check out the cadian battle group, plus these lists give you a LOT of benefits!!

Nice list, I agree with Sampson about vets with sniper rifles. If you really like using snipers, I recommend ratlings, I run a squad of 10 of them (only costs 100pts), they really make your enemy rethink his approach.

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.
