Hi all
I'm a 36 year old guy who used to game a bit (badly) and paint (very badly!) back when I was younger.
Life got in the way and I haven't played in at least 15 years. I'd always look in the window of my local GW anytime I walked past and even bought a few paints a few years ago but never ended up using them.
Then a couple of weeks ago someone on my FB was talking about Magic The Gathering (another pastime of my younger days), this stirred up the memory banks and I hit Google just to see how MTG panned out these days. That was a slippery slope that quickly lead to Warhammer!
Wow. I had forgetting just how much I loved this whole hobby. Really it was a bit of a revelation. So, I thought to myself ill just buy a couple of minis to paint, not too many ill not actually build and army or game , just a one or two to paint.......... . Two weeks later and I'm surrounded by necrons, orks, imperial guard,a whole heap of random models, more painta, and a 40K rulebook. I found a couple of job lots going cheap online so it was all fairly cheap as well!
My wife is a little bemused (she knew I was a geek when she married me but to her this is a new level of it) but she knows it'll keep me happy.
So I'm pretty excited to be back, I can almost hear the mInis calling me......

Greetings!
Welcome to Dakka, you seem to have the plastic addiction firmly in hand, or is that out of hand. Any particular army that you like the most?

Well I've ended up with quite a few Necrons so I think I'm going to look at building up a force of them to begin with.
Games Workshop has gotten very expensive since I last bought models, so I'm going to try to source as much as I can second hand.
I also need to practice painting as my painting skills ( which were limited to begin with ) are very very rusty. I intend to have a couple of painting only projects going on along side the army to get my skills up.
.

Good man. Welcome!
I'm in a similar boat to you, with the exception that I've managed to drag a friend into it too... Our wives don't really know what to make of it...

Got to agree with you when it comes to game's workshops prices, but the 'get started' (or something) sets they released on the website are great if you get them from a third party website selling them.
|
The armies that I collect:
- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.
(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent) |

Where abouts are you based in the UK? If you're near enough you could always drop into one of our games nights (invitation also open to anyone in the area).

I'm in Northern Ireland, thanks for the offer though.
I have found a couple of local clubs which I'm going to try and get to but with 4 kids and a wife who works most weekends im nor sure when exactly I'm going to actually get to go.

Welcome back, cool thing about getting necrons second had is you can roll with any damage they have, paint to highlight the damage, and use it as fluff. I do the same thing when I buy IG second handed, they go in a conscript blob (militia) or kit bashed with good gear and become veterans.

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.
Jury-Rig - makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand, the Machine Spirit is not pleased......
