I think I'm going to be getting some Bretonnian Knights and I was wondering if painting them up in gold and blue as Stormcast Eternals on celestial horseback but using the Bretonnian rules would be too confusing?
I got a fluff book from the AoS starter set (for $4!) and after giving it a quick thumb through, I have a little bit better understanding. If you don't hail from Azyr, then you live in a pretty awful God-forsaken land, most likely beleaguered by daemons and cannibals. So I thought some Azyrian, Stormcast Knights would be cool and fluffy. If that doesn't really work (star horses can't be transported by lightning bolt?) Then I could just do regular knightly colors and then heavily weather and battle damage them to represent their origins from a war torn realm outside of Azyr.
What do you guys think? If it works, I might get some Stormcast Eternals, to use as foot-Paladins for the Peasantry and also as an elite anvil to the hammer of Bretonnian knights

Actually many humans live in Azyr along with the Stormcast Eternals, so you could do your knights in the same vein as your Stormcast (although the idea of the Stormcast teaming up with pissed off realm-bound Knights that have a bone to pick with Chaos after being nearly annihilated is really awesome!) They won't need to travel by lightning bolt since several Realmgates have now been opened that enable foot travel to/from Azyr. Good luck and be sure to show your work here

I would paint them as normal humans but do all the heraldry based on Age of Sigmar motifs, for example Stars, Moons, Planets, Comets, Warhammers, Lightning bolts etc
Perhaps with non traditional colour pairings too like Deep purples and navy blues matched with light greys and soft yellows etc.
Would look cool! Whatever you choose, share pics

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

I actually started a personal project awhile back where I was going to create a knight for each mortal realm. (I really need to find time to finish them...)
A knight of the realm of life, the realm of the heavens and the realm of fire.
Kitbashing pegasus knights and Stormcast flyers can really make some awesome results. Ride the storm on wings of chivalry!

I would suggest the opposite. Not from perversity but because I think it would look cool.
Paint the knights as Sigmarines in gold and blue, but do all the heraldry on their shields and flags in traditional Bretonnian style.

This. The existing fluff mentions humans maintaining "the old ways" of the world that was but obviously their equipment would be contemporary even if the imagery wasn't.

I would interpret it the other way. They maintain the old ways in warfare, way of life and armour production but now seek inspiration for heraldry from the celestial realm where they reside rather than the traditional stag/boar/bull

It's two good options.
As a historicals player, I prefer my suggestion because European noble families have proudly maintained their traditional heraldry for many hundreds of years.
I think the Bretonnians would do the same, and they would adopt new kingdom flags (like in Outremer) that would have Sigmar type symbology, to reflect the new realms they find themselves in.
