So I haven't played 40k in quite a while, life got in the way, you know how it is....

So I was going to buy some new models, i just bought a new Tyrant, Hive Crone, and 2 more Carnifex, and hopefully 3-5 Mucolids

Now, I am wondering, How have the Toxicrenes faired so far? any good uses, tips/tricks for them? Are they even worth the price ?

No. They suck,

They can clear hordes or tarpits pretty well with the large blast cloud thing. They can also have AP2 armorbane attacks that wound on a 2+, so sounds amazing against termies or MC's etc.

Problem is that shrouding is it's best defense and ignore cover is everywhere now a days, and its main job is done better by other things. Not to mention it competes for slots with the best units you get not named Tyrant. Str is horrid and WS is trash. Hard to hit with, hard to keep alive against 2-3 of the most popular armies....

General consensus is leave it at home, but it can threaten T3 hordes, super light armor, and some MC's/TEQ's. It has some versatility but generally competes against better options.

I think they can be ok if used properly, they can hold themselves outside the covering range of Venomthrope / Malanthrope since it has shrouded by itself and have T6 multi wounds. So it can easily gain 2+ cover save to make general marine shooting weapons useless against it unless those Lascannon / missile launcher / grav cannons are supported by psychic power (perfect timing). While in combat they hit at I6 poison 2+ ID on 6s, AP2 due to being a MC. So it can mulch most units, like general marine squads, and even other MCs not a Bloodthirsters or decked out Daemon Princes. Even a Dread Knight can be taken down easily before he get to strike.Just be careful not to run into units like WK, the aforementioned Daemons, or massed Stormshield armed unit like TH/SS Terminators or Vanguards, or AV13 walkers like recently buffed Ironclad Dreadnought.

It doesn't matter. It's got a huge footprint and it's tentacles basically keep it from interacting with ruins / terrain in a playable manner.

It's not good enough to put yourself through that. Just skip it...

Is it that difficult? I think you can pivot the model to avoid the embarssement of not fitting the tentacles, and you just need a small portion of the base to touch the ruin and get that cover save, no need to fit the whole thing into the said ruin..... Unless you play on a heavy dense urban map where you cannot fit it through the street, but that is a extreme case.

It's a slow moving CC/short range MC with a poor armor save that depends on cover, in a largely ignores cover meta. It also has poor WS, so even if it does get in there its going to have a hard time poisoning things.

Looks cool on a shelf though.

A good representation is at around 5:30 or so.
