Little alarmed it's now £20, I assume that covers admission to the exhibition hall (7.50), but the rest, dunno.

Because I live far away and can only get there at actual opening time, I never get to see the presentations at these things. I hope the folks who do will take pics.

Salute is now £20 on the door and £12 Online and they have over 100 exhibitors paying South London Warlords to be there, GW doesn't have that luxury and I don't think all the staff that'll be there do it for free. It also keeps numbers down as if it was free entry it'll be overcrowded and they'd have to turn people away most probably.

Is it £20 per day, or £20 for both days?

Either way its not the worst it could be. This week I'm putting on SmogCon V, a three day gaming convention. We charge £50 a head, which gets you entry and some dice.

The biggest cost every year is venue hire. There is no way to avoid this (unless you have a suitable privately owned venue, eg Warhammer World) but as GW are doing this out of house, that's no doubt where the money is going.

Seeing is from the side of things I do, event running is a very fine line to tread, the margin is extremely slim (I've got 450 guests this year, and the budget has never been tighter). Its rare I leap to GW's defence, but in this case I'd say £20 for a weekend event isn't too bad, and £20 for a day isn't the worst.

Of course, I'd say Warhammer fest might need a little tweaking in format and what it offers to be worth that money (and if GW want to offer me a job doing their event management I'd love to ) but again, they are paying for an external venue and that's what is costing.

...and you will know me by the trail of my lead...

The exact same thing was £11.75 last year.

Also WHW would be open with or without the event running, and their stores will likely take more in the first hour of WF than they do in person all week.

I said I was alarmed, didn't say I refused to pay it.

they may well have made a loss last year then, or else this is classic GW price evolution.

That is quite a hike, I will agree. Again, was that £11.75 per day, or for both days?

Per day, and included talks and museum access.
That was the first day the FW store was open to the public, I doubt they took a hit.

I forget they can sell product, I have a store on site, but its independent of me and I don't get a cut, so yes that would lessen the blow for sure.

How big was the event? How many people, what sort of floor space.

I'm putting on three ballrooms worth of gaming tables, plus a breakout space for board/card games, flying in four guys from PPHQ (America) and anyone staying on site gets a free mini and some more dice. That's what £50 buys you in the world of PP events.

its a four star hotel, and we have a Koi pond and a waterfall :p

I'd love a run at doing something similar for GW with the full backing of the mothership, akin to the Games Days of old, but taking some ideas from the PP and other companies who are a little more contemporary in their thinking. Sadly, we all know GW isn't that keen on 21st C thinking (though they are getting better).

I have paid to go round the GW museum at the new rate, its a really fantastic experience, but I did feel the £7.50 each was a little steep. Guess they need to pay off that renovation somehow; )

Again, this is off site, so they are shifting kit and personnel down there, but as they don't really offer mass open gaming any more, its more people in rooms talking than anything else right? Which has its merit of course.

Just trying to get a feel for what they are charging for (beyond the brand name).

The biggest Games Workshop event of the year is on its way.
We hope you can join us there to collect your free and exclusive event bag.

They also said -- see the BB thread -- that there'll be previews etc of that game there too

Got my ticket today.

ForgeWorld wrote:There’ll be plenty going on over the weekend, including in-depth seminars and fun activities.

Seminars

If you’re a fan Black Library’s books, a range of their authors will be joining us for the weekend at Warhammer Fest. You can have a casual chat, get your books signed, and they’ll also be taking part in seminars, looking in greater depth at the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. Come along and you can meet; Chris Wraight; Laurie Goulding; David Guymer; Gav Thorpe; John French; James Swallow; and Neil Roberts.

The seminar sessions are always popular, a chance to hear directly from the minds behind your favourite fantasy creations, ask questions, and perhaps get a sneaky look at what’s coming up…

We can’t reveal all of the seminars yet (it would give too much away) but Warhammer Fest 2016 will include Forge World’s exciting look ahead at what’s to come, and a Black Library Horus Heresy seminar.

When you arrive at Warhammer Fest, you can sign up for free for the seminars of your choice. Each seminar will be run twice each day – so although spaces are limited, each seminar will happen four times over the whole weekend.

Activity Zone

The Activity Zone found on the ground floor will have a plethora of activites to entertain oyu in any spare moments you may have on the day.
Bring and Battle: There you will find an area to bring your armies and play games. (Please note that we only have a limited number of tables so be sensible with the armies you bring!)

Board Game Area: Here we will have a selection of the latest GW board games for you to participate in.

Scrap Demon Challenge: A chance to indulge your creative side as we provide you with a theme, models, clippers and glue and you must create the most inventive diorama you can! Once it’s done we will take a photo of it for our Facebook page and then you can take it home.

Reading about that activity zone, I will be extremely surprised if the new warhammer quest game is not there and playable. I am expecting it to be either released or up for preorder that weekend.

Does anyone know if the golden demon rules have changed this year? I was interested in competing with my unit of Plague Drones, but there are only 3, and it states minimum unit size of 5. I have noticed in years gone by there have been units of 3 in the fantasy category. Is this a new rule or a misprint?

Warhammer fest was at the Coventry Ricoh in 2014, Warhammer World for 2015 for the grand reopening, and back to the Ricoh for this year. It was £20 in 2014, £11.75 in 2015, and back to £20 this year, I guess it cost them an extra £8.25 to hire the Ricoh and drive everything down there

I, and my friends are going on the Sunday for our annual shopping trip.

See the Middle-earth™ team in the Studio Area on the first floor, and get a first-hand glimpse of their latest work-in-progress models. Also, feast your eyes on displays of fantastic Citadel miniatures and talk to the team about the new rules and books they are working on.

Also, a swathe of formerly out-of-production products will be available to buy at Warhammer Fest! All five The Lord of The Rings™ Sourcebooks will be available to buy on the day for the first time in an age (and they won’t hit the Games Workshop website for up to two months after the event).

The Kingdoms of Men, The Free Peoples, Mordor, The Fallen Realms and Moria & Angmar unlock the armies from The Lord of the Rings™ and enable you to use them in games with your The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ rules manual. If you’ve been hankering to get your hands on one of these precious tomes, Warhammer Fest is the place to be.

Return of the Ruins!

Osgiliath-RuinsThe Middle-earth™ team are preparing for their first adventure together, as they get ready to greet the masses at Warhammer Fest. Come along and meet them on the day and learn all about the future of the Strategy Battle Game.

Not only will you be able to get First Access to reprinted out-of-production The Lord of The Rings™ Sourcebooks, and the first returning miniatures, one of the items making a welcome return is the fantastic Ruins of Osgiliath kit, a plastic scenery set that’s perfect for your Middle-earth™ adventures.

There will be a limited number available to buy each day at Warhammer Fest, before they are generally available, so if you want to recapture Gondor’s ancient capital (or just populate your game board with awesomely detailed plastic Middle-earth terrain), don’t hang about.

Event only Eye of Sauron™ Badge

As well as the First Access items in the sales area, if you visit the Middle-earth™ team, you can take a little something away with you too.

The Middle-earth team will also be bringing along a bucket* full of Eye of Sauron™ badges to give away. You can’t buy these effigies of the Red Eye, but stop by the Middle-earth team on the first floor for a chat and they will happily hand you one of your own, for free. Until they run out, that is…

There is a new power rising in Middle-earth… and you don’t want to miss out.
See you at Warhammer Fest!

* It might not be an actual bucket. Currently they’re looking around for a more fitting receptacle… they have been seen scouring Games Workshop HQ for a pack-pony called Bill, an Orc helmet or a Troll’s talking pocket. Let’s face it, a bucket is most likely.
