Hi Guys,

This may have to be moved into painting / modelling im not sure.

I have a dilemma. In ages past when I was painting my miniatures I had Assault on Black Reach. So for those who remember the Sergeant in that one wasn't customisable at all.
Now, I've bought the proper squad and i've come across something and I need your help.

The assembly manual inside the box tells you how to assemble a standard SM and a Sarge. The Sarge however, is depicted in two formats, 1 with a melee weapon in his left and a bolt pistol in his right.
The other option is a gun that uses BOTH hands.

Now, I wan't to make my Sarge have a combi weapon in either left or right (eg. plas/bolter) and a sword in the other. In other words, can I customise him exactly how i want?

I know gameplay-wise, he'll fall under whatever rules my equipment makes him but i don't want a mere bolt pistol is his right hand! Do you know what I mean?

Cheers boys!

Just cut his hands off and replace them with the weapons of your choice? Otherwise, I don't really understand the question.

You might want to consider magnets. Lets you swap things around.

From a game play POV, having a model with all the wargear is just as non-WYSWYG as one with none of it. You are still not getting what you see.

But build you model however you want. If it looks cool to you, go for it!

Most of my sarges are one-handing their combis, with a chainsword in their other hand. It’s easier to magnetize that way.

Thanks for the feedback dudes.

Yeah, I'll customise him how i want, no better feeling really.

LOL, I'm entertaining ideas of a Lightning Claw (from Chaos Lord) but thats just nuts.

If you like it, go for it! Once you decide not to go WYSWYG, the sky is the limit.

From a gaming POV, if you were to take a power weapon to go with a combi, the LC is the best option. You aren’t getting the extra attack for 2 CC weapons anyway, so might as well grab a specialist weapon. It’s a crazy amount of point to actually sink on a 1W sarge, but does OK for a jack of all trades captain.

You can always mock up your builds with some sticky tack and see how they look. Sometimes things are cooler in our heads then they can be in plastic. Post pictures!

Honestly, that's what I'm arming my Blood Angel's Veteran Sergeant with for my tactical squad; a Lightning Claw and a Combi-flamer.

The reason for this is that a LC costs the same as a power weapon and you don't get the benefit of 2x melee weapons with either weapon since the combi-weapon is a 2 handed weapon, and the lightning claw is a specialist weapon. With a power sword or other power weapon you do lose out on a potential attack if you don't use a pistol or other melee weapon. The other reason is the lightning claw gets shred, which is helpful in making sure your attacks that hit have better odds of wounding thanks to that re-roll.

Total, it's only 25 points worth of wargear, so no different than putting a powerfist or such on a sergeant, and it gives the character a bit more flexibility with general shooting, plus having a one shot weapon, and being more effective in melee as well.

Just my opinion on that. Take it easy for now.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

You guys are the best, cheers heaps.
