I wouldn't mind seeing what Skyhammer could do to a list like this, I don't imagine much considering the Warpspiders get to move every time they are shot at and have huge LOS ruins in the center on every table. Also the Eldar player I played against rolled 2 invis's so he had it on both the star and the WK. haha. I love a challenge though.
I play Eldar and played against a skyhammer list a few weeks ago.

I just reserved most of my army and weathered the deep strike, taking some pretty big hits. I then bought my WK in from reserves, and deep struck the rest of my army and tabled him.

I've only played against it once. I was running orks and the squiggoths ate everyone who dropped down. It was a really close and fun fame though. Then again I don't mind fighting drop heavy lists since I tend to footslog so they come down, kill some boys, and then get assaulted by the rest. Also his assault Marines flubbed and a unit of 15 and a unit of 5 couldn't kill 3 bikes each... It was just awful dice there...

My Armies:
Orks about 15000-16000 mostly unpainted but slowly being worked on
Militarum Tempestus about 2000 points just built
Inquisition about 2000 points unpainted
Officio Assassinorum 570 unpainted
I dont paint quickly

Yup. Sounds about right. Skyhammer doesn't have enough teeth in my opinion. Not too sure why anyone thought it would be overpowered. It's too 1 dimensional and easily counter-able. But it does seem like it would be fun to play with from both sides of the table!

Because Xeno players claim assault from DS is too OP. As they deploy their scatterbikes and Riptides. OMGZ, assault marines!

Heres a Q about the formation. When you deploy the assault marines, they still scatter 2d6. They have a a high chance of dying the turn they arrive via mishap, or at least, ending up where they dont want to be.

Is there anyway other than skulls to reduce their DS distance?

Locator beacons that have been on the table since the start of the turn. So you can’t use ones in the Dev’s pods. But scout bikes are a good source here, or if you drop on turn two, other pods from wave 1.
You can also mislead or force reactions to those locator beacons. The bikes turbo-boosting to gain a cover save, ensuring they've got some durability.

It might not be the greatest against eldar...but you should see what it does to other marines. And since you get to pick what turn they come in, you can counter the null deployments people generally use to survive alpha strikes.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I found a flaw was to put to much into it. He threw a named DA librarian and a primaris psyker in it, had 4 MM in one pod and 4 heavy grav in the other pod. His assault squads had 2 and 3 power axes. It was, simply put, to many points invested that he could have used elsewhere.

I spaced out my models exactly 2" apart in the vanguard formation, allowing 5" on the board edge open to tempt him to a deep strike. He dropped an assault squad there -- and mishaped. (He had roughly a 1/2 chance to do so) As I said, he cleared out 2 squads of avengers and nearly 2 squads of banshees with his force, and then my spiders, hawks, reapers, and wraithknight came onto the board and cleared out the rest of his army.

If not to many points are invested, I think it's a great tool to counter armies. If over-invested I think it weakens the army.

It is a formation that brutal against weak army / weak list, but might disappoint you when facing stong ones.
A worst case scenario is you facing the eldar army posted by Saythings in this thread, if you go second, their seer council cast all the buff power and become unkillable.
If you go first they just reserve everything except that 15 warp spiders or maybe one units of 3 sacrifice jetbikes to waste the skyhammer's fire power. The skyhammer have to come in at latest T2 which means these alpha strike units will defintely BE counter alpha striked by the Eldar reserves if the marines are not able to wipe the eldar units on board within two turns, given the crazy mobility those warp spider and jetbike units have, you may have probably only one turn to do so. And nothing more needed to say how frustrating the warp spiders' flicker jump and hit and run and warp jump plus JSJ would be in such a case.

You can't hide if they come in first or second turn. The rules just say you choose.

If it comes in on turn two and I went first -- I don't really care. By then my entire army has had 2 rounds of facerolling. My wraithknight will be munching units in assault and protected from the alpha strike.

If it comes in on turn two and I went second, that's still OK. Most of my stuff is reserved, and it comes down at the bottom of two and wipes out some units, then the rest of my army deep strikes on my turn.

If you could hide the turn it comes in from your opponent, it would be different...
