Going to try to catch a tournament in March, might just be a local one. Was wondering on opinions for this list?

i think you play too few pieces, i would drop fiends for more seekers and the hounds for more drones, then use a Nurgle herald with locus of fertility and 2° psy level to put into drones and make them very durable , that is a unit can take lot of punishement

Ok, took some of your advice, but using only what I have. Also, herald of khorne I feel is needed with flesh hounds to deal massive number of attacks thanks to locus of wrath. Will the herald of Nurgle prevent plague drones from using their jet packs, or can they still make their assault phase move as long as they stay in coherency with the herald?

if you play only 1 Sl herald no reasons to play seekers, you have only 2 rolls on telepathy and if you dont get invisibility , seekers are mostrly dead, you dont need the jump pack movement, herald give drones durability with locus and eventually biomancy (endurance), you are fast enough with other units.

That is a good argument. I think Belakor is a must take it seems, since I don't have Fateweaver.

that is better, maybe at this point i will drop the only armor you have (grinder) for some more hounds and some rewards, like greater one on N herald a AP2 weapon is handy and maybe other 11 orrors and no nurglins so you have 11+d6 WC each turn enough for some good psy powers

I really like the soul grinder model. If I drop the final one, how exactly would I deal with flyer armies tho? Or is 40k really as rock, paper, scissors as people claiming 7th that one won't be enough anyway? This would be the alternate list but these final 2 lists are the only ones I will be using.

well grinders do really nothing serious against flying army 3 BS 3 shoots any turn with only str 7 mean about 1.5 hits on a flyer and against armor 12 you need then a 5 to get a glancing, against FMC you usualli wound on 2/3+ yes but they easily have or armor save or invulnerable save or they just jink so the chance to hurt are low, so dont count on them, better be solid on the ground summon when needed,and take space to the ground so flyers aren't a real threath anymore (remember non floating flyers CANT score. and if they float you kill them).

Keep the three soul grinders, their new formation is pretty good and makes them reroll failed hits and wounds so chances to kill things goes up They dont need to focus just fliers either, use them as your range support and area denial.

Now back to your first list, lets focus it a little, drop a slaanesh herald so you are at 4. Whether you run 2 khorne and 2 slaanesh or 3 slaanesh and 1 khorne or no khorne is up to you. My vote would be for 2 and 2.
Give them some of the new wargear (matter of fact slaanesh get some good ones that go great with the fiends, I dont have my book with me at the moment so cant tell you names, sorry)

Probably drop furies, they are meh in my experience.

For troops either add more pink horrors or replace them, 1 group of 11 isnt going to be much of anything to your list. If you decide to drop them add MSU style, you are gonna want to focus on score obj with your troops.

Drop fiends a few numbers to add some more khorne doggies and maybe seekers, fiends are good so you dont have to completely drop them if you dont want to.

Next place heralds in respective units and MSU the field

If you are wanting to work the psychic phase try to get a herald of tzeentch and make him the warlord, new book has a warlord trait where they harness on a 3+ and it has great summoning artefacts.

So I grabbed the book, but it says in order to take the 3 soul grinder formation, I also must include one core choice that requires 6-9 units. I don't have enough of any specific chaos units atm to make any list from the book. Such as: core 1 herald of Slaanesh, 6 units of daemonettes/ fiends. It seems that in order to run a daemon formation now you have to focus on one specific God. A stupid example is Rotswarm requires a herald of Nurgle and 7 units of plague drones/ beasts of Nurgle. Seems like GW is forcing players to rebuy the army just for a few cheap tricks. So yeah, this is my final list I'll be using. 7 units of drones/ beasts and a herald is around 800-900 points with minimal squads, and a big hole in the pocket just for poison hammer of wrath attacks.

Thr Soul Grinder formation can be taken as a standalone formation. The requirement for a core formation is only if you want to build the Daemonic Incursion detachment. If you just want to stick the Soul Grinders on top of your normal army it would just be :

No its not 4 heralds per slot, its 4 heralds per detachment and they take up a single slot.

Please post that argument of max heralds in the "you make the call" forum as this is just army lists and not looking for a thread lock. After some thinking, this is going to be an interesting, but fragile list. Found a way to fit in the new formations, only need to buy 10 more seekers.

Looks super mobile, should be good at maelstrom. What greater reward are you looking for on the seeker champions? Seems a bit excessive to me, just get a lesser for an etherblade if you really want to.

Also i think if you give your warlord a new Helforged relic like the slothful claw then you can't also use your exalted reward for a second helforged artifact. So she can't have the slothful claw and the Grimoire too. I'd give the exalted reward to someone else or just take a greater.

Fixed list entry, thanks for the heads up. The reason I chose greater reward was so I could switch between lash of despair and the greater ether blade depending on if my opponent uses armor boxes. S4 AP2 in assault or 12" 2d6 str3 rending shots is more expensive but I feel it would be more strategic. Maybe switch greater reward #5 for a lesser reward for last 2 squads? The +1 str. has saved in a few games, as most infantry is t4.

Edit: Also, +1 str allows a better chance at penetrating vehicles since it's an ap 2 weapon for ether blade.

i always give greater reward to Sl herald now a good the silvershard is great artefact an herald with 8 attacks in charge sound juicy ;D

Makes sense then! I don't think rending works on the lash though. Ranged weapons only get rending if it's in the weapon's profile. But the Greater Etherblade is still a good choice since you'll be S4 AP2 with rending for penetration light vehicles.

Slaanesh special rule says models are rending, not just in assault so shooting and assault rend.

The rending rule is clear it only applies to shooting if its on the gun, not the model.

Also i don't see the point of Furies if you're not using them to take the decurion detachment. They are cheap yes but they are super flimsy and will die if they are ever assaulted. It'd be better to buff up another unit's size or take a 2nd pink horror squad

This is correct, I should have been more specific, sorry! The rending rule that Slaanesh daemons have only applies to CC attacks according to the BRB if you look up the Rending rule. It basically says a model with rending gets rending on CC attacks. And it also says a ranged weapon with rending gives the ranged attacks with that weapon rending. So in a nutshell, it doesn't carry over to the Lash. If it did I think you'd see a lot more Slaanesh Daemon Princes flying around with it (still a good build imo though.

In any event, I wouldn't really bother choosing it because 2D6 S3 attacks are kind of garbage unfortunately. The Greater Etherblade is still a good choice as you said. It basically lets you win any challenge you get into with your high initiative. And as you said, helps to pen light vehicles with an AP2 weapon + rending.

Also agree with CrownAxe, Furies are kind of pointless unless you're running them as your Auxilary choice for the Daemonic Incursion detachment. If you want something cheap for scoring objectives then Nurglings are super cheap, and are much harder to kill. Or just use the points for more gifts or icons/instruments.

I agree with above 100% to drop furies for pink horrors, more rewards, or nurglings.

Thank you for clarification of the whip a lot of local gamers said it could rend, but never looked into it. Makes sense. List revamped.

No the Apocalypse formation has a slightly different name. I think it's called the Daemonic Forgehost, similar enough to get your hopes up.

This one is if one of your Grinders kills any models then the others get to re-roll to hit and to - wound rolls for the rest of the phase. Not a bad bonus if you're already taking 3 of them.
