Greetings,

Is The Void supposed to be a 120 constructed game or a 90 pt game with temporal cold war blinds used? The ad for it on wizkids looks like it says 120 but the store has it listed as using the blinds. I know my store has gotten things wrong before so I thought I would ask here. Guess I'll have to prepare two fleets just in case.

Hey man, long time no see.

The blinds are intended for all tournaments in 2016, so if your store is ordering them you should bring a 90 point fleet. Some stores are not running them and will just play a full 120. Otherwise are having trouble getting them in, due to the large amount being sold on ebay.

Just hope you don't get the Bajoran it's a nice ship to have, but compared to the other blinds it's like bringing a paperclip to a gun fight.

The difficulty in getting them is, places like Alliance are making stores order 2-3 OP kits along with the blind booster and the wait time to receive them is about a month. Not sure if this is a WK rule, distributers trying to move product, or both.

Well we have been down to a consistent four players each month so we still have a brick and half to go thru. I missed last month and the other players decided to use up the bricks during the next few independent episodes.

I ended up getting the Kazon ship in last nights blind. It joined my fleet of:

Bioship Alpha with skill 1 captain, Organic conduits, biogenic field and Biological Technology

with

Bioship Beta with skill 1 captain and Neuro Peptides.

I came in second for the night only loosing to the Borg Tact cube/Borg diamond and Bioship Omega (blind ship) He really got the pick of the litter with that Omega ship to join his over powered borg ships. He crushed everyone. I'm so tired of borg!!!

And Mr. Baldrick, don't count out that barjorian ship. In the first Temporal cold war, I laughed at it and the guy who got it in his blind. The only ship I couldn't destroy was that little thing. He flew it well and all the defense on it was crazy...

Its a great Rocket Propelled Grenade in my opinion: Its a tiny little Bugger, easily dismissed... but when it goes off, it F***ing goes OFF. Vicious little biter...

This is probably old news for you folks but I was watching the youtube unboxing of the Void OP IRW T'Met prize "ship" on Trueflight Silverwing's channel and he said in the video that the prize "ships" will no longer actually include a ship model. Is that true? They'll no longer be including ships with the prizes but rather just tokens and cards?

Yup, unfortunately it's true. From the Void forward prizes will be cards and tokens only, unless it's a new sculpt. So far though there are no new sculps announced as prizes. The Void, Doomsday Machine, ST 2-4 Movie OPs, Tin Man, and Corbomite Maneuver are all existing sculps.

I don't have a problem with that in theory but it depends on whether or not they significantly altered the price stores have to pay for the kit and/or what players pay (if anything) to play. At least with X-wing, my FLGS had to pay $20-25 iirc for the kit (that info is about 2 years old) so I expect that Wizkids don't send them out for free either. If the cost for the store was adjusted significantly downward, I'd be fine with the decrease in the value. It's not like the repaints were beauties afterall.

One of the rumored reasons for the change I have heard is to reduce cost of OPs for stores. Currently IIRC kits are $20-25. From what I heard some stores complained about the cost of the kits along with the blinds, so this was an attempt to cut the cost.

It annoys me some because I want more ships, but if it keeps stores hosting kits I'll get over it.

Do OP events charge players for playing to cover the cost of the blinds?

It varies place to place. One store I go just has us pay for the blind and that's it. Another store I go we pay for the blind and if we have less than 5 players we pay an additional $5.

I have read about stores that charge $20 for the blinds and just take care of it that way.

So they charge at a minimum the same amount for a random blind ship with less stuff (no special mission) as for a ship with known cards, sculpt, and faction that you'd actually want? I was thinking the blinds were heavily discounted ($5-10).

Again it depends on the store. The MSRP for them is $15 which is what all the places I have gone to have charged for them. However I have seen some folks online say their stores charge $10.

I have no problem paying $15 for a blind ship, most of them are worth that, especially the current batch. The only thing they don't have when compared to the retail packs is a mission. I am so far behind on playing missions a few less of those won't hurt. They only have one captain in them, aside from the generic, but a lot of the retail ships lately have only one so that's no biggie.

The last time I looked, the OP kits run for about 20-25 (as mentioned) and the Blinds are 8 a pop.

One of the stores I TO for charges 10 for entry, +5 for Blinds. The other, 5 for no blinds, 10 for OP with Blinds. Stores vary ALOT.

Very true. Before the blinds all the stores around me were " buy an expansion to play". One of them had just started with an option of a $5 entry fee OR buy an expansion, which some people liked. Personally I would rather buy an expansion to play because even if you don't win you walk away with something.

At the three venues I've played at, it's been $15, free if you buy a ship, and $5 with no blinds. It's just really up to the venue.

This past weekend we had our OP for the Void. After narrowly losing TCW3 I decided to be mean. This is what I came up with.

Officer Exchange Federation/8472

36 Bioship
05 Picard 9
05 Biological Technology
00 Admiral Hayden

36 Bioship
03 Tarr
05 Biological Technology

And for a blind I got Bioship Omega

38 Bioship Omega
01 Omega Pilot
01 Organic Conduits

My Opponent was going with his usual

Officer Exchange Fed/Romulan
Scimitar
Picard

Vo
Donatra
Mendak
Quark (hiding Disruptor Beams)

Science Vessel
Clark Terrel

His Blind was the Belak with

Belak
Lovok
Talshiar
Aft Disruptors
The crew

Set up. I know he usually goes slow to cloak everything, So I set up so I could grab some tokens form the derelict ships.

Turn 1

As predicted I can grab my tokens with no worries.

Turn 2

Now we will be getting into it. All three Bioships take aim on the Scimitar.

It took all 3 of my Bioships, but they take Picard out. Tarr is hit pretty bad, but my Picard and Omega are untouched.

Turn 3

The board becomes a parking lot.

Pretty bloody all around. Picard smokes Donatra. The Belak takes out Tarr and Omega takes out Terrell.

Turn 4

Picard strips the Belak of its shields and does a point of damage as she tries to escape.

Turn 5

Picard is out of arc, so it’s all up to Omega.

With the help of a TL, Omega scores 5 hits and a crit, and the Belak goes down in flames.

3 Bioships is just sick

The win was nice but the best part of the day was that our venue let us buy the left over Blinds. There were only 2 of us playing and my opponent only wanted 1 more. I bought the other 7. That makes 8 in all counting the Omega. That got me the last 3 blinds I didn't have, Omega, Tokat, and Selaya. Some doubles of Lakota and Aldara will help my collection as well

So, so perfect. Drawing the same faction blind as what you are running is always great.
