Numberless Necron Warrior

Hi there,
Just posting some pics of a Necron Lord I've been working on for a while. I kept putting off finishing him because I wasn't confident I could get the staff and cloak right, but in the end I said to hell with it and gave it a go.
It turned out OK, although the cloak is far too glossy. It's supposed to be a transition between black and dark green, but whenever it catches the light all the detail evaporates.

He's the first HQ unit I've painted, and the first in the Necron army I'm working on. I was going for a darker, more sinister look for my color scheme, closer to the older edition 'crons before their Egyptian makeover. I wanted to avoid the ornate, royal look, so avoided any golds and instead went for black/silver.

I noticed that this guy doesn't seem to be a particularly popular unit in modern armies; I figured it was just because an overlord is better in most lists, not to mention I think GW's painted sample looks awful. But that was before I realised what 'finecast' meant. Getting this thing free from its spru was like one of those kids toys where you have to chip a plastic dinosaur fossil out of a clay brick, and the end results are lumpy and riddled with imperfections. I can see why people would avoid these things.

I forgot to take a decent picture of the base before I glued it down, but here's an average one:

Anyway, thanks for looking, hope ya like

As much as I miss the gold/royal colours that make the necrons lords stand out from the warriors, I can see why you haven't done it.

Inspiring stuff! I really like the base, and the colours on the lord himself are all good.

The armies that I collect:

- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.

(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent)

I like it, it gives him quite the grim standing, fitting for a Lord. Good work

War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

I particularly like the vibrant green contrasting with the metals

I like it. The orb in particular has a nice glow to it.

I think this is quite nice, and it inspires me to do more of MY necrons. One quick thing that I think could be fixed is either painting in or removing the symbol on his forehead, as right now it simply looks awkward.

Other than that, very well done, especially the chest!

Fear is the mind-killer. The little death that leads to total obliteration.

Thank you I agree, I wasn't sure what to do with the forehead glyph since I wasn't going with gold; the way it is it kind of looks like a facial blemish.. I might do some experimentation with it.

The green on the bright metal looks really good. I like the simple metal/green color scheme without all the shiny bits. Good stuff
