I hate Leman Russ. To help deal with these feelings, I want to build some Thousand Sons. But I see GW doesn't produce chaos space marines anymore. What are my options? I know they sell a TS upgrade pack, but am I supposed to add this to generic SMs?

EDIT: NVM I just noticed where you are at. you're best bet is probably ebay or using regular marines bits (TS never really did 'mutate' their armor all to much) If you wanted to be really cool, go buy betrayal at Calth, and use the MK IV stuff (since those are basically MK IV torsos)

Just using the tactical marines might not be a bad call, actually. I think the Tsons could look better in 'clean' armour.. It doesn't make sense for a bunch of mutation-free automatons to have warpstressed/personalised armour anyway. Try to use the pieces that have a pre MK-VII feel.

For my Thousand Sons I put the conversion pack heads and chaos arms/weapons on robed dark angel bodies. Sadly no pictures to hand. I don't think the veteran sprue is sold separately anymore, but you can get it from the dark angels veterans kit.

It also provides a decent range of pieces from which you could covert a Cypher if you wanted.

Kromlech have some not- TSons stuff in their Legionary line.

Forgeworld have just brought out Heresy era TSons upgrades.

Somewhere (I think Ebay) I saw an awesome Tsons leader/individual/psyker/character. I've had trouble even searching for it, but all I remember is that it had the Egyptian-esq theme Tsons has and looked fantastic. Anyone know if there are any special tson minis available still?

It could have been one of the Ahriman models, or the sorceror that comes with the upgrade pack?

There are a couple of generic chaos sorcerers, as well as chaos models from other ranges (like AoS and daemons) that might work as a Thousand Sons sorcerer, perhaps it was one of those?

The only other Thousand Son I can think of (still in production) is the one from the Traitors of Chaos pack, which includes a legionnaire of each of the four god-dedicated legions.

The Gothic and the Eldritch, the book of Jes Goodwin concept art from a few years ago, pointed out that the Thousand Sons Marine in the Traitors of Chaos set is in modified mark 4 armour. Since the Thousand Sons Marines box set that the upgrade kit is based on was designed to look like that Marine, you could follow that up. Use mark 4 Marines from Forge World (or Betrayal at Calth) as a base. That's what I did.

The FW pic has a red marine - based on the colour, that strikes me a pre-heresy. Then again, I suppose the moment they traitored, they'd still be in red. I think they look cool all Egyptian-y and blue/gold.

There's absolutely no reason you can't paint the FW heresy bits in 40k blue and yellow.

Also if you're looking for cheaper than FW have look at Kromlech's Stygian stuff.
