Hey mates. Currently planning on fielding Chimeras w/Hull-Mounted Hvy. Flamers, but to make up the lack of Dakka, I plan to equip all of them with PM Weapons. With that being said, I have the option between a Hvy. Stubber and the Storm Boter, which one do you think is more worth it? Originally planned to take the Hvy. Stubber for the 3x Shots but just wanted to hear your thoughts on it.

Stubber is better for sure. Stubbers got some nice rage and ROF.

I prefer stubbers, they take advantage of the vehicle's relentless special rule and they're something just cool about the M2 12.7mm still being in use 38,000 years in the future

Heavy stubber is equal against models with a 5+ save and better against 2, 3, 4, 6+ plus has better range.

I think math showed that, even with BS3, the Heavy stubber was better in most situations. Kinda funny, actually.

Yeah, the stubber is better in every way. As others noted, yiu get equal kill ouput vs 5+svs, with 50% better range, and better against any other save type and 5+sv units in cover. Theres no reason to ever take the storm bolter.

the storm bolter is the 2nd worst ranged weapon in the entire imperium, i assure you its worthless (the worst being the plasma pistol)

Heavy Stubber any day. The SB is a waste of points.

The only thing in my army that has a SB in my army is my rhinos and that's cause they come for free. The AP never makes a difference.

Good points mate. However, only case where I found the SB to be useful in a small degree is when I run my Inquisitor formation. Have 4x Squads of henchmen in Chimeras, each with a Turret and HM Hvy. Bolter, and then I add in the PM SB. Combine that with Psybolt Ammo, you have a very Dakka Dakka tank with S6 and S5 shots. Other than that, SB to me isn't worth it.

Yeh, I've been running Mech Vets lately and have all of them take HS and I will say they are all my most favorite use of 5 points so far! 3 S4 shots at 36 inch range easily beats the 24 inch range of the SB, plus has an extra shot! They'll give you a good amount of shots throughout the game, and will easily make up their cost by triple or more.
But like you said, if you had inquisition, it'd be a good choice to go for the SB (I'm going to do that myself soon)! But good luck to your armies!
