Like 7th edition, will there be a bi-yearly Edition release?

On moon miranda.

Nobody knows. There haven't been any rumors regarding such that I know if, but anything is possible. That said, I'd expect 2018 more than 2016, but we'll see

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

If GW deems 40k sales to be low enough, there probably will be.

They'd probably remove squad sizes and tell you to mix and match any minis into any squads you want

If GW releases an 8th ed, i hope its when they finally realize you cannot sell models for a game, and not support the game rules with the cop-out of "we are a modeling company." New shiny sells models, but having solid rules, and some semblance of balance sells more models. and worth it to their bottom line to spend a lot more time on it.

The irony of their unbound model was that it might have actually caused people to buy less models.

Before that I know people who've started entire armies because they liked ONE model in the range. Nowadays people buy that one model and wash their hands of the rest of it. And this wasn't a fringe occurrence either, most people would ask "which armies you didn't play" rather than "which armies do you play".

Well, I think GW sees the codices and the rule sets as a mere service to the customers.

Right now, and for some time already, GW couldn't care less about rules. Rules are purely a means to sell models at this point, nothing more.

I think that, for most of this year, they will keep the trend of campaign books linked to 1-week releases à la Wulfen. The Deathwatch vs. Genestealer Cult board game will likely precede the included models being released separately with new rules.

In theory there are still five armies with non-updated codices (CSM, Daemons, IG, Tyranids and SoB), but in all likeness IG won't see anything new in this edition after the formations in the Mont'ka book. I'd say the same for Daemons in regards to the formations they got in Curse of the Wulfen. CSM are also unlikely to get anything but a few formations from a campaign book, and perhaps the rumoured new Rubric Marines as an one-week release. In a similar vibe, Nids may get thrown a bone with the Genestealer Cult stuff after the board game is released, and nothing else.

SoB players can consider themselves lucky if the army doesn't get squatted when 8th edition hits.

Honestly I don't think we're too far away from a new edition, but we have no clue when it could be released. Not this year probably, maybe the next, who knows. In any case, I don't see a new edition sorting things out, nor solving the huge issues the game currently faces. Just when you believe things cannot get worse, GW never disappoints.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

At this point, SoB players should consider themselves lucky that GW hasn't begun actively breaking their kneecaps with tire irons. On topic, though, I don't see a new edition coming out this year. Next year, who knows? The recent releases do seem to show GW as showing a little more attention to the rules, but they probably figure that it'll be easier to wait and update pre-Necron armies in the next edition.

Oh I agree that GW sees the rules as a chore to selling the models. and they keep pumping out new models and we keep buying them. but by fixing the rules we may buy a bunch of old models that they don't have to dump R&D money into.
It is unlikely they will make the change, though it's in their best long term interest. But i'd rather not see a new edition if they are going to put in the same effort as they have. The auto-wounding, unclear gobldy-guk we've seen

Of course there will be a new edition they need to gouge more money with a £50 rule book that's mostly a copy paste job.

Then they can release barely altered codexes for 8th.

Or they'll release 40k AoS and kill themselves off once and for all.

Either way nothing to look forward to honestly.

i like 2 things from AoS, each unit has its own movement range, so slow medium and fast troops/units actually feel faster, than just a faster flat out. And MC-like units don't perform as well once heavily damaged. I wouldn't hate those 2 parts coming over.

I think 8th might be coming because of the recent releases of hth charge/potent units.

I said 10 months ago (cant find the thread!!!), that 8th will be hth orientated, more visceral/more potent.

Its the next logical direction for 40k.
GW have done flyers, MCs, GMCs, shooting, psychics, formations.
I personally think 8th will be a revamp of 2nd ed close combat - dirty, close and mean.

Either that or 40k Naval Battles......

I hope there's no 40k 8th edition- if there is an 8th edition, it'll decline as magic is OP and there's too much random. Then a series of campaigns will be released showing how Abaddon is making serious headway, etc etc. It'll end with Abaddon and Kaldor Draigo fighting over a thunderhammer and both get sucked into the warp as Terra, and the universe at large, goes kaput. On the bright side of this we'll get really sweet miniatures and a 4-page 40k. (I don't hate AoS, fyi, I just just dislike the cop-out the end times were)

Ok, snark aside, I kind-of hope there's an 8th edition, or at least a 7.75th edition to fix up gross imbalances and such. To be fair, 4-page 40k has a nice ring to it

This is where I'd put my signature...If I had one!

Basically, GW have taken Grimdark way too seriously. They have become Grimdark!
