I mentioned in another thread that my LGS was having a newbie night. I went last night and got to meet some people who play for fun, not waac. Got to learn the game, and had a lot of fun playing. It was nice playing a game where I wasn't constantly looking at charts to figure hit and wound roles, wasn't constantly asking "what's his Strength/toughness"? At least for now, it appears to be the kind of game I was looking for. I didn't get the full-on experience as there was no shooting or summoning, but I feel I saw enough to keep me interested for the time being. All in all, a positive experience.

I recently played my first game of Age of Sigmar too. I really liked it. Much better than Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

Glad you had fun. That's pretty much how my first game went as well!

Lot of people complain about the inbalance of the game, but to me, and with AoS pace, games lost in advance are just epic story waiting to be played! So don't let that stop you and never forget it's just a game =]

I can never understand this "balanced" problem with Age of Sigmar. Fantasy and 40K had no balance either so why bring that into AoS just blows my mind. If AoS is not a good game because of "balance" then Fantasy and especially 40K is not a good game because there is worse balance in 40K right now than AoS.

Me and my daughter had our first game of Age of Sigmar. I simplified it even more because she has a learning disability, and we had lots of fun. Now I just need to do more painting so she can play with more minis.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Fantasy was only unbalanced at the top of competitive play, where warriors chariot monster mash fought with light council fought with wood elf avoidance lists and vampire blender bus.lists. But at least it had a competitive scene that can and regularly was shaken up by unexpected lists such as Brettonian grailstar or Goblin defence line. I'd prefer a dodgy competitive scene then none at all, but that's just me.

I've played aos, I've enjoyed aos with friends and in pick up games. But it will never be a competitive game and that alienated an entire niche of gamers who supported gw for an age.

I found that competitive play was indeed where most of the imbalance lay and why I try to stay out of the competitive scene entirely these days, because I want a good game that doesn't force me to take one of the power lists of the day to have a good game.

The problem is that competitive play seeps into everything because online discussions tend to focus almost exclusively on competitive play and with the ease at which these conversations can be sent around the globe it invades my group at every corner.

The fact that AoS is not a competitive game is one thing that engages me and i can't help but feel a bit disappointed that every game these days has to be competitive for it to not be slagged. Or maybe its that I just want to enjoy a game that doesn't have a tournament circuit meta invading my personal games forcing me to decide to either buy into the current power meta to have good games, or just accept that I'm not going to have good games because the balance is horrible and the power meta lists are vastly superior to anything else.

Welcome to Age of Sigmar!

Ive been gaming for over 35 years, with the last 10 or so mainly in miniature gaming.Ive found that AoS really hits the spot with a great mix of hobby and gaming

So many other titles claim to be the all balanced game system but really ,those games just devolve into net listing with 30% or more of the armies/components ending up sitting on the shelf while players compete with the current flavor of the month...im done with that crap!

I really like how GW has let the fans of the game just take it and run with it.Several good comp systems are out there now and social media is really starting to take off.Just earlier today on my AoS FB page a member was posting about how hes working on a Dreadfleet adaptation for the game. And of course theres Azyr Empires in the works, that is going to be awesome! I believe Auticus above knows something about that.

The game itself is a lot of fun and its still very new so getting in now is the ground floor of what will likely be a popular casual miniatures and hobby game for many years to come.

Echo Minijack's comments about being in on the ground floor. I find the developing storyline a lot of fun and the game and universe are getting more exciting as time goes on. It's especially inspired my hobbying.

Indeed you'll be happy to know Azyr Empires first draft was finished this weekend (286 pages) and a website is now being built with an online army builder and empire manager.

Its a good time getting in at the bottom floor and watching it build itself up!

Thought just occurred to me reading this, and I expect it's a side effect rather than intended.
We know from previous that GW got a bit carried away with the C&D's on fansites and things. With AoS being very open ended in that regard with the various comp sites and army builder, nothing on these - I guess with the exceptions of names/images - are particularly actionable because all of it is original rather than pirated/infringing on published works. Rather than 'promoting' the community as such, it seems.they might just be letting the community alone to take AoS and run with it?
