So I am getting back into WFB after leaving right before the End of Times books dropped. AoS is an abortion and I liked how 8th favored large blocks of troops.

I am extremely confused about which are the "current" books for 8th edition, however.

Did the End of Times books actually have new armies or did they use the last round of 8th ed. army books?

Also very confused about the Undead army. I am currently building one with some super cheap Mantic models (getting my skeletons for almost $.25 a model). Which is the last book for Undead? The Nagash End Times book? The last Vampire Counts book (not sure if they had an 8th ed. book or not)? Wondering the same about Warriors of Chaos and others.

Also wondering if anyone is compiling resources to keep 8th alive. Would love to see a list of the last edition of each army book before AoS ruined everything.

Thanks for the tips...

The End Times lists basically did away with restrictions between certain factions.

Undead armies were a combo of Vampire counts and Tomb Kings

Chaos at first was just Beastmen (who can now take marks), Daemons and Mortals but by the end Skaven were introduced into the list.

Then all of the Elf armies decided to join hands and hug trees.

The End times didn't add new armies but it did change some of the rules and added new units like Stormfiends etc. Lords and Hero's are now up to 50% of the army and they changed the way magic worked but it was stupid so I never used it.

I still play 8th, I collected all the books and all limited edition End TImes stuff, Elf Army Books and 8th Ed. rule book. I'm just collecting all the remaining armies for Fantasy 8th ed. now before they all disappear forever.

Square Bases for Life!
AoS is pure garbage
Kill Primaris, Kill the Primarchs. They don't belong in 40K
40K is fantasy in space, not sci-fi

Very helpful, thanks.

Do the End of Times books actually have the army lists in them or do you need the 8th ed. army books? I think the Vampire Counts 8th ed. army book is what I need to play proper 8th ed. End of Times seems like it would have been a mess.

Yea, you still need the 8th edition army books.

End Times was intended to be Fantasy Apocalypse, so If you approach it from that angle it's fun if thats the kind of game you want. For actual competitive and standardized game situations, you won't want to use End Times rules. The added units were more or less fine as long as you didn't use super sayan versions of all the Hero's.

If you're looking for a updated take on 8th then you might want to give the EEFL (Eighth edition for life) forum a try.
