Hi there!

Today I realised I might need a new Ultrasonic Cleaner.
After some problem with cleaning old AB and my "new" Iwata HP-CS, I decided to give it a try with stripping paint off miniatures. Note^ I use diluited windex to clean the AB.
I took some metal plaguebearers as test as, no matter how bad they become, you can always call them for a "conversion"
So I tried with this dude first:

4 cycle at 50W of 30 minutes each, a night soaking up and another 4 cycle did achieve not a very impressive result, so i tried with water and soap, as was in an article here on dakka, trying with a plastic model also. On the bottom is the results after another 4 cycle, night soaking up and 4 cycle more. And scrubbing. Much scrubbing
The second dude is the cleanest, the lonely one is the plastic.
Some color went off, but is like only the latest layers got a latex consistency and got off easily, otherwise the base colors are untouched. Wierdly enough pink and red are like resilient as f@@k.
However, I gotta say that my cleaner is a15 bucks aliexpress thing that came late and half broke and is a miracle i never got electrocuted as the side is open

Now, watching some more tutorials on the net, i realized when you talk about simple green, the stuff is not "simple, green", is more like like Dettol, here in Sweden, or?
However I gotta say that it looks like is bubbling and the liquids get up to boiling point almost, which I do not know if is that good.
In the case you guys think the problem is the cleaner and not the cleaning products, which Cleaner do you suggest to buy? A special voltage is better than more function, or ?
Those 2 are my pick ATM, if you have any suggestion or explanation, please do

Isn't it a bit dangerous?
How many W is your cleaner and can you regulate the temperature?

Check out the all caps reply to this post

Was looking into the same thing recently

I have faith in this reply and am going to buy SuperClean today

Give it a 36 hour soak then hit it with the ultrasonic

Ordinary pine soap (grumme grön eller gul) works well for removing paint from metal. Just soak in it for a day or two then run it in water rim the ultrasonic cleaner. For stubborn paint IPA works wonders. Just be careful since its flammable. Put some IPA in a small glass jar with the minis. Close the lid on the jar. Put the jar in the ultrasonic cleaner and full up with water around it and then rum the cleaner. Do not put IPA directly in the cleaner.

The chemistry within an ultrasonic tanks is as important as the tank itself. You really need to choose a detergent that works with the contamination you are trying to remove without damaging whatever it is you’re cleaning. I have a selection of detergents that I use depending on what I’m cleaning. This crowd have a good selection http://www.kemet.co.uk/products/cleaning/ultrasonic-cleaning-fluids

Watts per volume determines how much energy the cleaner can apply. Lower watts means less powerful cleaning. Dunno if too much energy is bad for mini-related use, though.

Pinesol in the US (for metal mnis only). Use the "original" version.

For stubborn paint IPA works wonders.

You use beer (India Pale Ale) to clean minis? Oh, isopropyl alcohol... Never mind.
