So I am digging running the Talon Strike force accompanied by Cult mechanicus. Here is my idea for a GT list with my RG. Comments and critiques are welcome, though I don't have all the models so don't go too crazy. Talon Strike Force Pinion Demi-Co Chappy - raven's fury, mb 5 scouts - bolters, camo, mb 5 scouts - bolters, cloaks, mb 5 scouts - snipers, cloaks (ignores cover for the lascannons) 5 tacs - grav cannon, mb (bolter scouts outflank - turn 1 preferably) 5 tacs - grav cannon, mb (bolter scouts outflank - turn 1 preferably) 5 tacs - heavy bolter 5 devs - 4x lascannons, cherub 5 assaults - jump packs, mb Raptor Wing Land speeder - HB 2x Storm Talons w/skyhammers CAD White Scars Librarian - lvl 2, bike, force sword, hunter's eye 3 bikes - 2x grav guns, melta bomb 3 bikes - 2x grav guns, melta bomb Lord of War Typhon Heavy Siege Tank - armored ceramite, heavy bolter sponsons So, changed it up a bit and added the typhon. I wanted to run my 30k raven guard at the tourney but I don't think it'd work very well for me. I can do MSU and play the mission better with my 40k raven guard. Adding the white scars adds some more grav punch and the hunters eye is just gravy. Opinions welcome! BIG QUESTION! Can I take the Typhon as a LoW in the Talon Strike Force? Or do I have to take the Allied Det.? This is the real problem I'm facing. Thanks guys!

I like it. pretty mobile and every unit having a meltabomb is clutch. Also alot of firepower. Im liking the admech addition alot as well and am considering looking at allies for my ravenguard for tournaments, and i'm torn between admech or maybe a knight. The callidus is also very tempting, may have to look more into it myself. not sure were improvement could be had, but if im mistaken your lacking any reliable anti air, which may not be a big deal based on your local scene.

I typically tend to ignore it if I'm honest, but that is a solid point to take. I will give you some advice: I tried a knight before trying the admech stuff and was very underwhelmed It just didn't do that much damage. I was playing against a 3 centurion squad list with a landraider and 2 storm ravens, but it still just didn't survive very long. It got taken out by grav rolling 's...Pretty LAME. I'd go admech. More grav (bonus for taking out MC & GC) and more durable platforms T5, 2W, 3+ or 4+ armor for the win. Keep em in cover though. Running the armor of shadows with the grav guys means 2+ cover saves against everyone but tau and hunter's eye white scars Anywho, thanks for the response pal! Neither the TSF or the Allied Detachment have a LoW slot (or fortification slot for that matter). So the list as is would be illegal.
Could add a scout squad to your WS ally and make it a CAD. CAD has the LoW slot you seek.
Keep in mind if you join the lib to the RG units you lose chapter tactics.

I like the new list. Def covers everything. I just got in a game today at 1850 with using the revamped list in my previous thread and i have to say im feeling mixed on it. I played against a wolfstar with blood angels allied priest and wulfen. The devs got chewed up by the wolfs turn 2 due to my vanguard scattering and going back into reserves, but i had some clutch meltabombs and got lucky by rolling a 6 on 3 of the d3 maelstrom cards. Game endeds 18-4 turn 3 when my op conceded knowing he couldnt table me in 6 turns. Having said that i was very much on the backfoot all game and got lucky with my card draws.if the game had 7 turns i would probably have been tabled. Im liking how the vanguard vets act as a unit that comes in to do what has to be done to get points, and if they die after its ok. This army def cant deal alotta power but they have the tools to pull off any objective card you have. I needed domination, so i dropped my vets in by my scouts, blew up the rhino on it with the melta and secured it. Yes the vets died horribly to the wulfen the next turn but the secured me 3 victory points. Ive come to realize if the opp has a strong unit that takes to many resources to kill the way that this army adapts to it is simply throw scouts in the way to hold it back a turn and just ignore it.

I dunno... I think you're better off playing a skyshield landing pad than a pinion. put your points else where.

Nice list! Pretty nasty. I'd trade the heavy bolter on the Tacs for obvious reasons. I'd get that scout squad for the LOW slot in the White Scars detachment.
Probably do it by ditching melta bombs and something else. I never found MB's too handy myself. Not a bad way to spend 5 pts, just didn't come up too often.

Again, he has bikers as his second troop because his Librarian has a bike

Good thoughts all. Allied changed to CAD that fast. Libby on bike now making bikes troops is clutch. Will keep the whit scars libby with the white scars bikes to keep chap tactics everywhere. Shame as I thought the Allied Det had at least a fortification, and a LoW, but I do like the humble CAD. I think it covers most of the boxes. Fast scoring units (bikes - obsec too FTW) do you think changing those scouts in the white scars det to more bikers good for more Obsec? I think that might actually be a good idea.
I have mobile grav to deal with MC and GC. Heavy firepower to pound deathstars with the typhon. Ignores cover las to destroy armor or pesky t4 multi wound models. Lots of MSU to make deathstar shooting less effective.
I know that drop pod or alpha strike armies with ignores cover (tau) will just wreck my face. I know that and it's all good. Not looking to win the whole thing, but if I get the chance that doesn't mean I won't play my tail off to do it, however. Looking to have a good time and show people the Pinion can work. And to teach them the wonder of the typhon
Thanks for your thoughts, I have edited the first post to CAD instead of an allied Det. Automatically Appended Next Post: So I dropped the scout bikes, the typhoon rockets on the speeder and the HB squad's melta bomb in order to pick up another squad of grav bikes in the WS CAD. In the long run I think this'll help out more. More grav, more obsec and fast units - which after their tricky deployment, the RG aren't.
Thanks for thoughts!

No other thoughts at all? I will be trying to get a game in with this list soon to have some more info, but I think on paper it looks strong. I ran the basic layout of Pinion + raptor wing with some admech allies and it went well. Now adding the grav on bikes with a lvl 2 libby seems a better choice. Especially with the Typhon in the back being a jerk to everything
Appreciate the feedback.

I had success with my grav bikes in a local tourney. Lotta fun and complement raven guard well. Though I'm a purest fan it does look fun. Not my forte but hope it does well! Least the Typhon looks cool!

Ya I have a feeling I'm going to catch a couple people off guard the first couple of round and then they'll catch on lol I imagine it'll be priority #1 most games. Funny because THAT'S OK! Then all my troops get into position and grav things to death! haha
The white scars are something I haven't actually played before so I'm going to need to practice with them a bit. I like fast hard hitting things though (I run scat bikes with my eldar) and think I can get the gist.
Thanks wolverine.
