Basilisk vs Whirlwind - Given the option, what would you prefer to take and why?

Wyvern. TL, 4 blasts, shred, ignores cover. The other two have to spend big points to get those rules.

Wow I'm gonna have to get one of those as an ally for my Ultras. I really need to dig out the IG codex. So much cool stuff to bring as allies...

TF cannons cost more, aren't twin-linked and don't have shred. I like how they're tougher though.

They have s6 which is better than shred, bs5, techmarine can kick ass in melee and still be a decent force on the board even after the tfc itself stops existing. Is not a vehicle which is a huge advantage. And he fortifies your position + benefits from chapter tactics. If that's not cheeze for 100 pts, i don't know what else you need. D-blasts?

We're still talking 65 pts vs 100. 200 points of wyverns will out perform 200 points of TFC imho - unless you're trying to kill terminators.

Maybe that's coming from an ork's perspective. Dealing with wiverns is not hard. They're vehicles, so a few lobbas or bigshootas can shut them down or even explode as they're opentopped. TFC? Nope. Need to get close and personal and pray to not get cut down with a 2w 2+ powerfist dude with an overwatching flamer.

That being said. if earthshakers is what you are after (the basilisk gun), artillery carriages are generally a better source for it.
not mobile, but cheaper and questionably tougher.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

All that being said, if you don't mind dumping some more serious points but don't want to buy artillery carriages. . .

You could go for the artillery company with a CCS, 2 units of either Bassilisks, Wyrvens, or Hyrdras, and a Deathstrike or Manticore.

Now you can give any of them pinning, monster hunter/tank hunter, or ignores cover. Ignores cover AAA is pretty handy for swatting away lighter flyers, or ignores cover S9 AP 3 large blasts. The Deathstrike is a little wonky but can be an excellent piece of bait, or if it's ignored can do some heavy damage to an army (S10 AP 1 Ignores cover Apocalyptic Barrage can do that), or the better reliability of a Manticore.

But depending on loadout that is a lot of points (535 min if you go for bassilisks/Deathstrike, 415 if Wyrvens/Deathstrike) But if your opponent doesn't deal with them then they get rained on every turn and the rest of your army can do something useful.
