Subject: HALO Warthog for Imperial Guard: Which choice would be best to buy for an IG custom army?

Just as the title sez.
I browsed various offerings on Amazon and E-Bay. But can't really decide, since I'm not looking at them personally. And there are not many choices in the size range for 28mm from what I can see.
So, I'm asking for experienced opinions from the pros (you guys). Anybody here who has painted up Warthogs for 40k, or are just in the know, have any advice/preferences?

I know that Spartan Games are at some point going to develop a HALO ground battles based game. Currently, I've heard no further word about it, but seeing as they're still releasing stuff for HALO: Fleet Battles, I gather the interest in HALO is still there so the ground based game might not be too far off. If time isn't a priority (ie. you're content to put the project on the backburner for a while), the prototype Warthog the Spartan Games have put together looks really good.
I for one really hope they hurry up with this - for me the HALO Universe is about as engaging as 40k or Mass Effect and I have a real hankering for an ODST/Spartan force
EDIT: Actually, not sure if these are 15mm or 28mm. Don't suppose it really matters in one sense as a 28mm games is in the works and if these are the standards of 15mm - then 28mm is only gonna get better.

Thanks for the heads up. I would absolutely LOVE a 28mm HALO ground-based game. When (or if) it becomes available, I'm definitely gonna check it out.
I've been looking at the Halo-3 Series-1 Warthogs, and my gut says "go for it". I might pick one up just to check it out.
If that doesn't work out, I'll be more than happy to wait for Spartan Games. Those sculpts look awesome.
Much thanks for replying.

No problem, the more people know about it, hopefully the closer it'll get (Wishful thinking? ). I've held off Halo Fleet Battles as I really feel an airbrush is needed to do the models justice, but I cannot wait for a 28mm Ground Based game. From what I gather it's set on Reach - so Mk. IV and Mk.V Mjolnir for all!

Have you looked at Halo Action Clix as a cheap alternative? They were 28-30mm scale and the vehicles were very good.

To clarify on the Spartan Games stuff, so far we know that there are two scales of game in the works. Those renders are for 15mm, and we've seen some minis for that as well (they looked stunning!), which I believe were mentioned as coming out this summer. The skirmish game will almost certainly be 28-32mm, that's the one I'm really, really looking forward to but everything we've seen for the 15mm one has me excited for that as well!

Just a note on Actionclix, I'd looked into them as I wanted a Halo army, but from what I gather they are pre-painted (Which isn't a big problem) but more importantly the plastic is fairly soft. Handled with care, you should be alright, but if the parts flex you may end up with a fair bit of chipping and flaking going on. Now I can't speak from personal experience, but that's why I shied away from Actionclix.
@Paradigm - I'm hoping, as with HALO: Fleet Battles, that they are allowed to expand the range a bit. I mean, for the mechanics of the video-games, theWarthog and Scorpion are fine, but with the exception of a couple of missions in Halo 3 and Halo: Reach we never see a full scale battle - and even those we do see aren't on the scale the 15mm will play at. Hence, you never get to see the UNSC or Covenant deploy in full strength. I'd like to see a wider range of vehicles and aircraft, especially those that turn up in Halo Wars and the cut-content.

Yeah. The Halo Reach version I've looked at tended to run over forty bucks (sold by NECA through Amazon).
Most of the battle damaged Action Clix Warthogs were reasonable. But what Warpig just posted makes me a bit leery of them, even though they look nice.
The McFarlane Series-1 looks like the better option based on the limited info. Dunno how well they size compared to the 28mm. I'm considering using Infinity minis for the crew (Dark Age-themed "elites with the elite" known as the "Eternals") on some units . But I want to use "heroic" scale Cadians (with hostile environment Forge World bits), or Eisenkern Stormtroopers, on any Warthogs in the main force (the "Black Watch" brigades).
Ugh. Decisions, decisions......

The vehicles were not soft plastic. By soft on the minis, they are like toys rather than grey plastic minis. They are not pvc like reaper bones. You can heat and reshape with a hairdryer, but they're not rubbery.
I used to demo the games for Wizkids in the U.K.
Nobody ever seems to have the coffee table sized vehicle.

That being the case, I'll definitely add the Action Clix 'Hogs to my list candidates to examine.
Back in my Mechwarrior clicky-tech days, I found that the playing pieces were fairly sturdy. While many of the sculpts were horrible, I the ones I own are far from absolute junk.
