So I know it's been discussed in past but I need help. What is the best way to transport so many models and tanks. I know of battle foam but seems I'll need $150+ What if I only have 100? I need to transport some how rather than buckets of models clashing together. Is there good cheap, pluck foam and carieers

How many egg cartons can you fit in a bag?

Haha that's like 12 guys. So I'd need 9 egg cartons just for basic troops at minimum.

Well everyone knows that the CRASSUS ARMORED ASSAULT TRANSPORT is the only way to do it.

I put off buying custom foam for years. I prefer to be spending my hobby dollar on more minis. But I love my KR case. Worth the investment. You are still looking at a significant investment, but probably not as much as battlefoam.

If you want low cost, there are a few options. DIY is the cheapest. Get a box, get some foam from a craft/furniture store, do some cutting. I find eggshell foam works well if you just want to line a box.

Pistol and/or rifle cases are also affordable, and it looks like you are in the US, so accessible.

Exactly what minis you are trying to move will also effect what option is best. Different armies pack differently.

I have one of the new GW cases: https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Citadel-Crusade-Figure-Case

It works really well and has space for lots of infantry but can also hold tanks easily.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

GW carry cases are the best on the market currently. The new wavy foam trays hold a lot more than square foam grids, even if compared to other companies more efficient square foam grids.

The cheapest option is to buy ultra cheap square foam grid trays on auction sites and place them all in a cardboard packing box.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

This tray is genius. Four tanks, 20 infantry, a valk and it's flying stand.

what tray is that scott?

So I tend to play foot guard backed with tanks, but I also have Chimeras.

My GW carry case(old school) works well for my marines as you dont need as many.

Does the KR case protect much or does the cardboard just wear down?

That's IG10.

The card cases are pretty tough but they will get damaged over time if you're transporting them a lot. That's why they offer the padded cases to transport multiple of the card cases.

I've got about 30 of the card cases now and three of the padded cases (one each of 2-slot, 3-slot, 4-slot) so I pull the card cases I need off the shelf and then throw them into the padded cases for transport.

steel sheeting and magnets off of ebay.

Magnets on the bottom of the bases, then set the models on the sheeting. BOOM! good transport the more handy you are, the better you can make it.

At least, that's what I'm planning to do for my HH armies.

For most of my IG stuff, I honestly just chuck it in whatever Amazon shipping box happened to be around that day. The only IG units I really bother putting in foam cases are my DKoK infantry and the small handful of metal models.

I have seen a couple different ways of doing this. One method I am in favor of is getting those shallow plastic tubs, and gluing a piece of sheet metal to the bottom. You then glue magnets into the bases of all of your miniatures. The magnets hold them in place for transport and the plastic container prevents most things from being able to damage the minis. Vehicles are less able to use this method without needing alteration. For vehicles, foam is the best option. The foam trays with the little parts that you can cut out to custom fit the tray to your miniature are the best option, IMO.

As of right now, I don't exactly have my miniatures in the best transport. I have an OLD GW hard case that most of the infantry fit into. However, the new 32 mm bases do not fit, so I have to come up with something different. Eventually I will probably get a new hard case and use the customizable foam trays inside.

don't drop the box

I'd like foam, but it's generally super expensive, and quite often doesn't fit a lot of models without extra work.

I've got a battlefoam case and it works great for my tanks and fliers but I'm personally looking into doing the magnets and steel sheeting thing for my guardsmen as theres just SO MANY of the little buggers, and that just regular guardsmen, not counting stormies or vets or HWTs. You could also make the magnetic base scenic for extra flare! or as a easy was to transport fortifications AND guardsmen, IDEAS!
