After taking a looooong break I finally succumbed to the urge to paint again and dug up the remains of an old box of fire warriors I had laying around. These are the first minis I've painted in almost 3 years

Having now purchased and started painting another squad from the newer box I must say that there's a noticable difference between the old and new sprues (these guys are all from the old sprue though).

C&C is very welcome.

Update 4/3:

I've now finished a DS8 turret to accompany the fire warriors into battle. I'm not sure if there's too much orange on it or not.

I also took more pics of the exploding FW and a group shot.

Like I said, I'm not completely happy with how the blood turned out.

Far right guy in first and third pictures.

WTH is going on with him?

First I thought it was an EMP grenade and OSL but he looks... gooey.. Did he get vomited on by a Pyrovore?

The bloody chunks on snowy bases is an interesting design choice, especially for fire warriors, but it actually looks quite nice, so I give you props for that. The bayonet on center guy in the first picture is so out of character, it hurts me, but the blood effect is not badly done. Might want to "flick" it a little more so it looks more like blood spatter and less like red paint (which is what it is, I'll grant you). Spotlight guy, Far left in first and third is funny, but I like him. Who needs Blacksun Filters when you have flashlights!

The execution on the grey armor and orange suits is *awesome*

It is human nature to seek culpability in a time of tragedy. It is a sign of strength to cry out against fate, rather than to bow one's head and succumb.

Cool colour scheme. Great work considering you must've been very rusty (I get rusty if I don't paint something for a week).

Far right guy is getting blown to bits as I had more heads, legs and arms than torsos and my green stuff skills are very lacking so I couldn't make an actual intact torso for him. The blue/purple is supposed to be tau blood as that's supposedly a bluish purple according to what a quick google-session could tell me. I'm not quite happy with how it came out in the end though.

The red blood on the ground is supposed to be from dead guardsmen as I like to use leftover bits for my bases and I have loads of AM and Eldar bits so they usually end up chopped up on bases for other factions.

I've always liked the idea of a grey and orange colour scheme.
I guess the trick is not to have the brighter colour overwhelm the more muted tones of the grey.

I might experiment with that and see if it can be applied to other races

I think the grey and orange look good - not too bright at all.
