So, I have a question regarding the Shattered Legions and the rules that affect multiple Legions, like how its listed that ALL Units count as Ultramarines for the purposes of Interlocking Tactics, and how if Night Lords are present in the army than everyone receives Night Vision. Specifically my question is in regards to the Alpha Legion. I am at work so I cant remember the exact wording, but it mentions Martial Hubris and Mutable Tactics and needing the Warlord to be from the Alpha Legion for them to apply. Does that mean that the Alpha Legion component of the force will not get their special rules unless they are incharge? Or that the entire army benefits (and suffers from) from Mutable Tactics and Martial Hubris if the Warlord is from the Alpha Legion?

I believe that they would benefit so long as they still have the legiones astartes: alpha legion special rule either way.

Ok, so the Legiones Astartes: Alpha Legion would still get it, but say if I put Raven Guard in the Shattered Legion, would they? That's what it seems to imply. If not why even mention it in the rules at all?

I doubt that RG would get it. It's the same reason why you couldn't give salamander flamers chem munitions if you had death guard in there.

Except its listed in the section of the Shattered Legion rules that specifically mentions what everyone gets, if X army is included in the Shattered Legion.

Like the example that every unit counts as an Ultramarine one, for the purpose of Interlocking Tactics.

Chem Munitions from having the Death Guard included, is not listed in that section.

The Mutable Tactics rule itself states that: "An Alpha Legion army must pick one of the following special rules.. <snip> ..This rule then applies to all of the units in the detachment with the Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) special rule for the duration of this game."

Vital (if badly chosen by FW) keyword: *army*

Likewise Martial Hubris states: "..and an Alpha Legion army is your army's primary detachment.."

The Shattered Legion rules modification regarding Alpha Legion states: "The Alpha Legion Mutable Tactics and Martial Hubris special rules are only used if the Warlord has the Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) special rule."

It's basically clarifying that if your Warlord isn't Alpha Legion then that detachment doesn't constitute an 'Alpha Legion army' as described in the original rules, and as such those rules don't apply.

As to how the rules *do* apply if the Warlord is Alpha Legion: Mutable Tactics would only apply to Alpha Legion units, because the Legion-specific rules modification section doesn't change its wording. The Martial Hubris rule however would include all units in the army, because the original rule simply says "units".

Ok, so never run AL in a Shattered Legion force, unless its lead by the Alphas.
