Hey guys,

I'd like to increase my collection of VMC paints in the near future and have previously bought them from The Combat Company & Mighty Ape online. Both stores sell them for around $5 each but I'm curious to know if there's anywhere I can pick them up for less. I'm in Victoria and my preference is to order online.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Around my area, my local hobby store sells them for $4.40 but doesn't have a full range (actually he might have the full range of VGC, not sure, but he doesn't have the full range of VMC). I've never tried buying from him online so I have no idea how he is with online orders, his shop is on my way to work so I just pick things up in person.

Metro Hobbies carries the full range of Vallejo, but they're $5 each. For me they're less local so I don't normally go there, but they also carry Gunze paints which are harder to find so sometimes I swing by for those.

There's also BNA Model World, I have never ordered from them but they are based down in Moorabbin, I don't think they have a storefront though (maybe they do, I've never been down there, but from the look of it, it seems they are online only). I intend to put an order on with BNA some time soon as they are one of the few places you can get hobby lacquers.

Those are the places that come to mind, at least around my parts.

Many thanks AllSeeingSkink.

If I was to buy say 30 colors from Andrews Scale Models that'd be an $18 saving which is not to be sneezed at. It might be an issue if he's missing colors though.

I don't have a problem paying $5 each if I have to but would like the reassurance of knowing there isn't a cheaper price out there I'm missing out on.

If you don't mind me asking are you a big user of VMC & VGC paints yourself?

How much would it cost to ship somthing to Au from europe. If it worth it we could build a exchange program.

Inactive, user. New profile might pop up in a while

Andrew is a good guy, he can come across a bit abrasive at first but he has given me good advice on the products he uses himself and doesn't BS me on products he hasn't used (which two of the several guys who works at Metro has done to me in the past).

In the past he's been happy to get colours in for me that he didn't have, but my understanding is his Vallejo supplier has a minimum order size and he doesn't shift a lot of Vallejo (surprisingly given he's the cheapest place around) so a couple of times I've ordered paints off him and they haven't come in for a few weeks.

I'm not sure I'd call myself a "big user", I tend to just buy from whatever company sells the colour I want. But I've used a decent amount of VMC and VMA, I have some VGC paints but I haven't really used them for much, not because they're bad but just because I bought them to replace old GW paints and haven't had a chance to use them enough to form an opinion.

I think I've pretty much used all hobby paints that are readily available in Melbourne at one time or another

Thanks AllSeeingSkink, it sounds like Andrews Scale Models may really be worth a try.

If you live in the area it'd be worth swinging by. I go there largely because it's on my way to work I live in the outer-east and work in the south-east so I drive along Maroondah hwy until Ringwood pretty much every day. If I happened to live in Box Hill I'd probably go to Metro more often than I do currently as they have a bigger range (of everything, they carry more kits and more varied paint ranges).

There's hobby shops dotted all over the place, those are just the ones I know near me that carry Vallejo stuff, there's probably others further afield that also carry it.

Bna are good, I've used them lots.

Combat company are good bit pricey, not sure if underground wargames stock Vallejo

I pay $4.99 a bottle for mine (local model store carries entire range of VMC, VGC and their airbrush stuff - Newcastle, Frontline Hobbies - yes they have a webstore and they ship).

When I started using them, though, they were only $3.50 each ...

That said, I only have about 25 or so colours that I routinely use (You'll never see me use pinks outside of the flesh range, for example).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

Interestingly I found its possible to order them even cheaper from Ebay, from a place in the UK:

Just that poms can ship to us for virtually nothing (especially businesses) but us shipping to them is a fortune.

It wasn't a reflection of any specific vendor
