Hi guys and gals
So i did a little bit or research and i found this place is the best to be to interact with others who share the hobby ^_^

So.
As the title suggests its been a while since i've really touched the hobby. But a few weeks ago i decided i needed something other that gaming in my life to keep busy so i thought i would pick it up again. By pure chance the apartment i moved into about 2 months ago is a 10 min walk from the only store on the island that sells GWS merch.

So long story short, i bought myself some stuff and decided to give it a crack. Here is the first attempt:

He was super super dark so i redid tidied him up the following weekend:

After that i felt like a needed to experiment with some colour schemes and some painting techniques as watching Youtube tutorials really showed me how to do it.
The result was this guy:

I think i'm pretty happy with him but again it was just experimenting and seeing what i could come up with.
As of last weekend here is what i have done:

So its pretty much like learning all over again.
What do you guys think of a rusty painter

I think they look cool. still learning to paint myself so cant really give any advice, except always thin your paint. And washes help alot to put depth on the minis. Im busy starting a spacemarine chapter where every model will be painted a different chapter. By the looks of it you gonna have a nice collection by the time you done. Keap us posted.

I'm also a super newb, but I think I can give you some tips.

You absolutely need to thin your paints a lot more. This will avoid the gloppy look you have on some of the parts of the models. Thick paint can crack and look grainy when it dries. It's better to use many layers of very thin paint, than one layer of super thick paint. It makes a really big difference.

It's great to use a lot of shading, but once that's done you have to repaint certain portions of the model to make the shade really pop and give the illusion of depth.

Edge highlighting will also bring a lot of depth to your model. Basically you chose a color that is a shade or two lighter than your base coat and use that on many of the sharp edges of the model. This will give the illusion of light hitting the model and will really make it pop.

Lastly, decorate the bases you have your models on. If you do it with the right colors, it can make a huge difference on how your model looks in general.

Good stuff man! Throw some highlights on there to really make them stand out! Unless you are going to do like 30 of these guys, then that would be tedious.

Thanks guys.
Yeah i'm still learning the finer points of painting. I do thin them down but i must need to do it more ^^

As for the shade and highlighting to tend do the base coat, shade with its corresponding shade (agrax, nuln etc) and then dry brush witha lighter version of the base.
Then what i do is go back and base the details and repeat until i get this effect.
Not 100% sure if thats the correct way to do it but it works for me ^^ i just need to be a bit more sparing with the base paint and shade.

And the first blue guy i did was a SM Commander i picked up. First one i've painted in 10 years so i wasnt expecting amazing things from it but i think i'm happy with it

For the love of all things 40k, please don't drybrush marine armour.

Do yourself a favour and learn line highlighting, or be incredibly incredibly specific in what you drybrush on the marines.

Is it really that big of a difference?
I've been looking at this video for instruction:

I personally find it does. I don't like the dusty look of dry brushing on SMs.

He has TONS of great vids and I basically learned how to paint from his channel and the WarhammerTV channel.
