These seem to be an auto include on many top tournament lists.

Would banning them mean that more units are destroyed (and so turns finish quicker, and games can play to time) or would it just make the roll to go first closer to a game deciding roll (one player goes first, shoots all the opponents stuff, opponent can't respond effectively.)

Would LOS blocking terrain be sufficient to protect armies from the first turn wipe out? If so how much would be needed (perhaps one large piece in each deployment zone, plus one or two in the neutral zone)

Nova uses a lot of los blocking terrain. Vsg is still in a lot of lists. Its too good not to have

Vsg has two nerfs which could reign it in if its out of control.
The first is to treat the shield as a building or vehicle so that things like gauz, haywire, grav, melta etc work on it.

The second is to let it only work on models and not units. Only a few lists really take advantage of this and usually that's a blob of weak infantry.

The top nerf makes the most sense but it only makes good options better. Those options are already popular in competitve builds so would reign in a lot of its usefulness in the competitve scene. However I'm not so sure void shields is a problem in the first place.

A lot of assault oriented lists need them - tyranids, orks, chaos

You would effectively be nerfing those lower tier lists

Unanswerable. Since actual VSG are hard to come by (with their limited release) almost everyone converts theirs

Big. About as tall at a Warhound, with a length and width about 2/3rds the length of a Knight Titan's base.

I used to take a VSG but it proved too situational in terms of usefulness.

My meta has a ton of drop pod marines, though, so dropping the shield with melta or other anti vehicle weapons and then unloading grav weapons was never much of a problem.

If anything, I might think about taking a bunker with a single Void Shield but have to playtest that.

Coffee cans, shoe boxes, mini-kegs, random bits of foam. You name, I've probably seen a VSG made out of it.

@kronk
At LVO many folks had those plasma globes in various sizes with GW bits or other converted shapes. Sorry that I don't have pix.

Look for Derik (sp?) Page's display board. It ought to yield the one he made. He had a 'garage/hangar' for his 4 Imp. Knights.

Edit:
I was wrong. It's 3 Knights and I did take a pic. Unfortuantely, the VSG is on top of the pic, and you can't see the globe, but the base he converted is there.
