Posted by Wayfarer on The One Ring Forums:

this was postet in a German Facebook group.

http://www.directupload.net/file/d/4284/eawajesb_png.htm

The question seems to have been about the status of the sold out sourcebooks, and if there would ever be a reprint.

Translation of the answer of the Mailorder guys:

Thank you for your patience. We asked the responsible department and the answer we got was:

"We have a brand new department caring for The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit products. They have big plans for our Middle Earth Miniature range for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The first step is making the sourcebooks available for people who want/need them. That is only the first step on the journey.

The team is currently working on getting the 5 sourcebooks ready for reprint. They will be available within the next months . for more informations please check our website regularly.

As a Wizard once said, "The board is set, the pieces are moving...." "

We hope this Information is helpful to you and........ bla bla......

Desolation of Smaug is now OOP on the US site. I wonder if there will be a fifth sourcebook for Hobbit stuff. Or maybe there will be a general reordering rather than a straight reprint.

That's 100% great news. (and I'll buy second copies just in case they go out of print again!)

It makes sense to just have a single Hobbit sourcebook for DoS and Bo5A versus reprinting the two (as one is a pdf anyway)

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

According to people on Facebook. the likelihood is that they're going to reprint the old sourcebooks, and all future releases will be in 'Assault on Calth' style big boxes. I don't see them rewriting the core rules though (since they're reprinting the old core books), so we'll probably just see a batch of new boxes with a bundle of different new minis in with stats and specific scenarios. So a 'Last Alliance Battle Box', or a 'Battle for the Dead Marshes' box or whatever.

Sounds good, the books in their current form are perfectly serviceable and the Big Box GW products are typically chock full of plastic goodness!

I'm really looking forward to big box sets but I guess this means we really need to be getting what we want right now.

I kind of expected this and to be honest I don't mind, as long as any new figures are compatible with the existing game (which would mean that the stats and special rules for the box set would have to use same rules as The Hobbit Rulebook, or include a THR stat sheet for all the figures if the box set used different rules.

Honestly it does not really make a ton of sense to reprint the sourcebooks and then put out set piece boxes. The sourcebooks contemplate army building, after all. (Some of) GW's current packaging is actually very well suited to the game envisioned by the sourcebooks. Set piece box sets would more lend themselves to the older style game, where recreating scenes from the movies was the main thrust.

I could definitely see "start collecting" style boxes with a sprue of warrior infantry, maybe some cav and/or siege weapon, and a captain. But Heroes would probably still be sold separately. That raises the question of what will happen regarding the figs that are still in metal. Will GW simply let these go OOP or is FW maybe working on a way to get cast-on-demand resin production going?

I don't imagine the plastics they already have will go anywhere so long as GW have the licence, so reprinted sourcebooks will keep those useable and let everyone already invested in the game pick them up.

Meanwhile, themed boxes will a) suit the Forge World (either this new studio is part of FW, or vice versa, I can't remember) MO of narrative-driven products and supplements (see the 40k Imperial Armour books, the HH stuff, the old Warhammer supplements ect) and b) allow them to release standalone products that you won't need the sourcebooks or existing armies to use. LotR was very narrative-driven in its golden age, a return to that would be both most welcome and probably quite profitable.

Frankly, there's some epic potential here. A BotFA set with the plastic Iron Hills Dwarves, armoured Elves, Laketown militia and Gundabad Orcs we never got during the GW period would be awesome, and since plastic characters tend to crop up in these boxes, throw in Dain on his warboar and Azog on a small sprue to lead the forces, you've got something awesome!

My assumption here is that there will be no new models. I hope that doesn't include stuff that was not released.

I think much of the recent success of box sets games like Space Hulk or Assassinorum was due to people buying the games to use the figures in 40K. Having the SBG stats for the miniatures in these hypothetical Hobbit "set piece" box sets gives them a wider potential customer base, both the new board game players and the old (or new) miniatures game players.

I could definitely see "start collecting" style boxes with a sprue of warrior infantry, maybe some cav and/or siege weapon, and a captain. But Heroes would probably still be sold separately.

I could see that as being a great idea as I think the "start collecting" boxes for 40K and AoS are generally a great deal and are driving a lot of sales. I think it could be a huge potential sales boost if they could get the new SBG boxes into mainstream hobby and toy shops. I think a lot of the success of the original LOTR game was due to it being available in non-gaming stores, which exposed it to a lot more potential players.

That raises the question of what will happen regarding the figs that are still in metal. Will GW simply let these go OOP or is FW maybe working on a way to get cast-on-demand resin production going?

I wish they would just give up on their failed resin experiment and make them in metal. Lots of other companies and games are still selling a mix of plastic and metal figures (Warlord, Northstar, Mantic) so why can't GW???

Some new boxed sets options would be really nice. This is the scale of game where it's quite feasible for a boxed set to have most of an army.

More news from the same source:

Hi, this is from a facebook post from the Warhammer World page on 10 Mar.

"I am pleased to announce some great evening entertainment at Throne of Skulls on 2nd - 3rd April.
That's right, folks, expect some boisterous mirth in the evening! . First up, Adam Troke, the Middle-earth manager at Games Workshop has agreed to do a presentation on the Saturday night, all about the future of the Strategy Battle Game and Middle-earth in general. I'm a little stoked about this and can't wait to hear what he has to say!"
