This blog post http://gavthorpe.co.uk/2016/03/06/warbeast-authors-notes/ came out from one of the AoS FB groups. Gav talks about his first "Project Cucumber" book .

I think the humour may get lost in translation, but i think AoS as Cucumber and 7th as Stanley would set the conspiracy cynics frothing for years.

I do quite find the BL model quite interesting though. I mean, the brief specified that it must feature Clan Pestilens, Stormcast must be the main focus, that it needed to be set in the realm of beasts, and that during the life cycle of the book bits got re-written as the various Stormhosts got their personalities.
So... the book is released at the same time as Battletome: Pestilens, a rumoured new kit for Stormcast, and fleshes out the realm of Beasts just in time for rumoured GA: Destruction.
So it's pitch perfect in terms of release schedules, but all the other markers indicate that the planning for this book was well over 18 months ago.
Anecdotal evidence that the GW release schedule isn't as flexible as some seem to think?

Also kinda funny to see that the seeds for Stormcast were sown in the 'golden era' of WFB fluff...

oh yeah the release of the realms was set out pretty firm awhile ago and I agree on the level of flexibility. I mean, they can move a kit or two here and there but despite the frothing this clearly has some thought and foresight put into it.

I think BL's manner of issuing a new book was mentioned on the forum some time ago. It is just as I imagined it - write a story including this stuff and set in this world. My guess is that only the most important events, key to the realmgate saga for example and some very specific places (Extremis vault in Sigmar's palace) will be hard coded so to speak - 40k style. Everything else in the setting will be gradually filled up by the more striking pieces in BL's books. I expected it to be this way - nothing new here.

I've never doubted that GW's production model includes advanced and long term projects - it's model of continuous releases demands it . A company with several design teams that are communicating and actively cooperating with each other would need to plan its releases accordingly even if the actual design process is quite short. I mean, even a smaller firm like the one I used to work in had pre-planned projects for more than an year in advance(having the same continuous release schedule as GW).

Yes, nearly all companies do this. It pretty much is standard practice in business. There are cycles and constraints that drive trade, like the seasons, and lead time for manufacturing and transportation, and the financial year, that essentially impose forward planning.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Wow the comments on the website honestly I felt some of them are quite rude in a sense. Still I am going to give the book a go I want to see Gav's take on on AOS and the stormcast only the audio drama series so far got me to really care about the stormcast.

Trenchant is the adjective I would use.

Disgruntled Gamer is the leader of the charge. He is indeed very hard on the AoS fluff, but it is the fluff he is being hard on, not Gav Thorpe, and Thorpe didn't even have anything to do with writing it anyway.

The point about subjectivity is that something can be objectively bad, but still fun and enjoyable. If you enjoy it, to you it's subjectively good. I am sure plenty of people will love the mighty tales of Sigmar and the Sigmarines' Celestial Crusade. There also are plenty of people who think War And Peace is boring rubbish.

It's Fulmynators, BTW.

However I think it's excellent that Thorpe is able and happy to engage with the public. It's much more interesting to read his comments, the complaints, and his responses to complaints, than a PR style post fawning all over the awesomeness of something. Especially now that GW have reduced their design studio to a faceless monolith with zero human personality.

I am still astonished how badly GW seem to have misjudged their public. Unless they deliberately set out to enrage half their customer base and turn them into ravening negative entropy engines, of course.
