The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer
Hello!
Here are three lists I've devised, all of models I so far own. The first one I will take to battle against a Death Guard Reaping list tomorrow, but I made it a fair while ago and neither of us have tailored. Feel free to comment though I naturally won't change list for the game tomorrow!
Pride of the Legion
Spoiler:
HQ
Erebus - 195
Chaplain with AA, plasma pistol - 110
Elites
5x Gal Vorbak with AA and LCs on the Martyr - 230
Contemptor Mortis with dual Kheres - 180
Troops
Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (10) with 2x meltagun, rhino, AA on sergeant - Outflanking - 265
Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (10) with 2x plasma gun, rhino, AA + power weapon on sergeant, Outflanking - 285
Legion Veteran Tactical Squad (10) with plasma gun + heavy bolter, AA + power weapon + plasma pistol on sergeant, Sniper - 270 pts
Fast Attack
None.
Heavy Support
None.
Lord of War
Lorgar Transfigured - 450
The Dark Brethren
Spoiler:
HQ
Zardu Layak w/ Blade-Slaves - Warlord (RoW: The Dark Brethren) 275
Just a heads up. I don't think the first list is legal. Word Bearers must always have a second compulsory HQ choice, and that choice must either be a Centurion or a Chaplain. You only have one compulsory HQ choice in that list.
The third list is also not legal. FAQs turned the Primus Medicae into a support HQ slot, and it can't be used as a compulsory HQ choice. So with this list too, you only have one compulsory HQ choice.
Also, I'd double-check the points on your Tac Squads in list 3. They are the same cost as the Tacs in List 2, but have more goodies.

Erebus I believe counts as both Diabolist and Chaplain, but I agree that I think you still need a second HQ choice - you just have free choice as to what it is.
If taking a Mhara Gal, or Zardu Layak and his retinue, I'd always reach for a transport of some kind for them. They're amazing in close combat but can't afford to walk across the board.
Zerg Rush list:
Dark Channelling seems a waste on the terminators - Erebus is probably joining them so they already have Zealot, they already have an invulnerable save....and +1 S isn't so much of a big deal with Lightning Claws as they already Shred.
By comparison, an extra Burning Lore upgrade improves your chances of getting Shrouding or Invisibility, which helps no end in getting an infantry block across the board un-vapourised.
Last Of The Serrated Sun is a Rite Of War worth considering....

This isn't entirely accurate, I don't think. If you take Erebus, you have fulfilled your Chaplain/Cebturion requirement, and one of your cumpulsory HQ choices. You'd still have one remaining cumpulsory HQ choice. So you're still limited in what you can select here in that it cannot be a non-cumpulsory HQ choice, such as a Primus Medicae, Master of Signal, or Moritat.

The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer
I changed the Dark Brethren list again, removed an AA from a tactical sergeant and the machine spirit from the Vindicator to fit in a Rhino for Layak and his friends.
I do believe it is still permitted to take a Rhino for my tactical squad and let Layak ride in it, if I understand the rules correctly?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Wait no, I can only do that if they number ten. Damn. I am not a tank person, I do not really have anything other than Rhinos to transport him. Should I restructure my list with a ten man squad to get a rhino in, or should I let Layak walk?

Ref Dark Brethren and Zardu's Rhino, I'm not sure you can take a Rhino as a DT for 20 Tacs, since it only fits 10.
Automatically Appended Next Post: A 10 man Tac Squad squad to get a Rhino would still be problematic, as you have to take at least 10 dudes in a Tac Squad, and the Rhino has a 10 man capacity. You could start them in the DT, then swap them out for Zardu.
Or you could take a Tac Support Squad wig 9 dudes and stick Zardu in there.
If you footslog Zardu, make sure he's walking with someone else for the Look Out Sir saves.

the PotL list doesn't have enough models or survivability, even with the rhinos, it could work, but you're looking at an uphill battle. I like the other 2 lists however. Enough bodies, decent amount of damage output, overal good lists
I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Keep in mind they are outflanking. This is very much a list where Lorgar walks up the field and tanks everything the enemy throws at him and only the sniper veterans stay in my deployment zone.

even then, you may be overvaluing Lorgar's tanking power. Maybe swapping out some of the vets for a tac squad or terminators to at least help with eating enemy bullets.

Lorgar should get off Precognition fairly reliably with the Transfigured bonus, and a bonus warp charge from Erebus. A T6 2+/4++ model who can reroll saves is going to be tough.

Tempest swapped out his Telepathy for Divination.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, what kind of list do you feel would be best with Kor Phaeron? He is a nice guy but Zardu Layak and Erebus just seem more useful.

I don't believe Kor is that good. I think he works best in a smaller match because he is a very cheap and half decent HQ.
I would keep him off the playing field as much as possible, tucked away in a nice and safe Spartan with a terminator bodyguard in case S6 attacks come knocking.

If you want to use Kor Phaeron, I think he'd fit best in a marine-heavy army to make the most out of his leadership buff. Howver, I think the buff is a bit redundant with WB improved morale checks, and his T3 kind of negates the FnP. I think they threw in the one-use hand flamer just to feth with people.
I agree with wellshippo...use him in smaller games for a cheap HQ choice (although you can get much cheaper than Kor Phaeron.)
