I was wondering if the ork's were good. Well compared to the other factions there a pretty expendable race. So more money down the drain. DO you think it's a good race? I need honest opinions

"We're not just going to shoot the bastards. We're going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks."

The one rule I have in my threads: DONT TALK ABOUT THE ABRAMS.
That is it

A good race, what is good?

Are they the good guys in 40k: who knows.
Are they a good choice in order if you like to win games: NO!
Are they fun to transport: NO
Are they fun to paint: ehm they are a lot to paint.
Are they fun to buy: NO unless you like to buy a lot and are forced to buy convert a lot of stuff because all logical HQ's don't have models. And all good units have a really bad points to money ratio.
Are they having a decent codex: NO
Are they good in close combat: Not really
Are they good in shooting: Not really
Are they good at getting shot and surviving: No
Can you scratch build a lot for them: Yes

Are they a good army to play: No idea, they can be for you. How should I know what you enjoy playing.

Dats grot talk. Let me fix dat for ya.

Are they the good guys in 40k: Orks is best, dem otha gitz is not Orks so they worse.
Are they a good choice in order if you like to win games: Orks always win, every boy knows dat.
Are they fun to transport: Trukks are fast and going fast is fun. Battlewagons hold more boyz, are dead ard, and killy (and dats fun ya git).
Are they fun to paint: Red paint makes them faster so its more fun, painting things blue is for proppa Deathskull lads who knows what proppa lootin is all about.
Are they fun to buy: Der is dis umie fing called "Ey Bai" dat has all sorts a stomped up wagons and bits ripe fer da lootin. Anyfing can be made Orky if ya try ard enuff.
Are they having a decent codex: Errr........... Tankbustas, now dem boyz knows how to krump a wagon rite proppa. Dey in da dex.
Can you scratch build a lot for them: Fink we already covered dat but yes, da meks is best at building wagons and shootas from bits.
Are they a good army to play: Orks is best, cant get betta den dat now can ya?

It kind of depends on your definition of "good". For me, I define "good" as fun to play and fun to build/paint. If that's how you define "good", then heck yeah!

Thanks to eBay you can also get a whole lot of boyz for not that much money too.

Here's a few questions to help you decide if they're right for you:

In game terms:
Are you willing to face uphill battle in almost every game?
Are you good at/or do you enjoy coming up with creative lists and unusual tactics?
Are you ok with needing to move around a very large number of models each turn?

In hobby terms:
Are you constantly thinking of things to scratch build?
Do you enjoy modding existing kits?
Do you like having an army that can be painted wildly different from one unit to another?
Are you cool with having large numbers of troops to paint?

If the answer to all or at least most of these questions is "yes", then Orks may be for you.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Psiensis on the "good old days":
"Kids these days...

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Awesome modeling potential. Ivery enjoyed building all their kits, and have converted up every imaginable HQ type, just from spare bitz.

On table however, the games REALLY depends on your opponent.

It's not that Orks are (that) bad, but more that a few of the big armies are way too good.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Let's just say this, while space marines are the army that Shall Know No Rules, Orks are susceptible to every rule imaginable in the book.

Playing them becomes more of a test of your opponent than anything you can really do, reliably or not.
