Hi all

So i have an urge to create my own personal SM Chapter.
I've been messing around in my head with some colour schemes and been experimenting with some models and here is a WIP progress of what i'm liking so far:

Now.
I'm thinking this could be the Colour Scheme of an HQ unit/Hero.
What the main army will be is a less metallic Grey & Orange. So basically the more Shiny your armour the higher up you are kinda thing.

I would like some suggestions on things like:
Names, General Army Colour, Background/History etc

I like that scheme and the premise of the chapter. Could be a blood angels successor - they like shiny stuff. Raw metals are also akin to purity, ala grey knights, so you could make them psycher heavy emperor botherers too.

General army colors could go from silver to white (high rank to low), and gold to yellow/orange.

Names: some synonym for brilliance or brightness or whatever, Solar Knights? (lol, but it also matches your shoulder pad icon)

There are plenty of options you could go with.

Though i would ask what kind of army you want to play or your play style. pick a chapter based off of that

then figure out why they have that kind of scheme

you could also integrate the original chapter colors and heraldry into it

otherwise you could go with an unknown chapter and do what you like.

would be cool as an iron hands or even imp fists too. the imperial fist has a similar one except the armor is black called hammer of dorn or something like that

I really love the color scheme on the armor! Very cool and Silver Surfer ish.

Your biggest challenge will be to add some contrast. The guns, pouches, grenades and other accessories will need to to be other earthier colors to really make the armor pop. This could be in line with their fluff as they get the elements to make their armor from the earth.

One type of backstory could be that the population they serve are smelters and miners, hence the over all metallic theme. Blue collar types that took to War to protect their resources and maintain their hierarchy in the Universe as the ones that are best at iron/metal work.

Call them "The Iron Consortium" or something like that. Kind of like the Iron Dwarves in World of Warcraft.

Yeah dorn reminds me of the sun (no idea why), good tie in

isnt that shoulder pad just a smurf thing or a general vet thing?

The shoulder pad with the sun on it is from a SM Tactical Squad sprue.

I like the colours but I feel like your paint scheme is a bit flat atm...

Consider, if you will, painting the rim of the boots copper too, could look good.
Also, this is just my personal taste but something you might also consider, I would fill in the knee pads or/and the shoulder pads. ushabti bone with a bit of white added too it I feel would fit your colour scheme.
Or if you wanted to go a step up from that the ushabti and white mix, quartered with a deep royal red would add to the glory of your scheme while giving it more depth.

As for chapter Ideas, think about how you want to play, if you are intending to play. Think about how your chapter feels to you, are they duelist, are they brawlers, are they spec. ops. or do they just bust out the big guns from the start.

Even though the shoulder pad is a generic pad from the tactical kit, I reckon it totally fits in with what you got going so far, maybe run with it and see where it takes you.
You can easily make a press-mold of the sun detail to replicated onto other pads.

either way, good start

Those are really good ideas.
Gonna have to research how to make a press mold though

That's a really cool scheme. Nice and subtle, but with good contrast, colour choice and placement. I reckon a nice deep red for the gun casing and any squad/company markings and you're in business!

That is excellent.

Push molding that pad will be a great easy start. Get some Oyumaru or Instamold, heat it in boiled water, press it against the shape you want, allow to cool, jam some green stuff in there, use a blank shoulder pad as a guide and boom, done.
