Good afternoon. My friend / opponent is playing a German force but is without any armour assets. I have an extra BA T-34 unassembled that I want to throw his way as a captured vehicle, but am unsure what the most equal comparison would be. Looking to the BA players to throw out some ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Just use it as a T-34, with some big iron crosses painted on the side.

Yeah, I get that, but there is no T-34 entry in the German army book that I am aware of. In the Soviet forces book, there is a small entry on US and British lend lease vehicle equivalents to Soviet armoured vehicles. That is what I am looking for, but Soviet to German.

There are no rules for using other tanks, although there are officially unofficial rules for using captured equipment. It's bought as normal, but only as inexperienced.

Still, the T-34 is basically the same as the Panzer IV, with only a few minor rules differences.

That last sentence is what I am looking for. Thanks much. The first para is also interesting to know.

Actually it is more like a Panzer III unless you are using a T-34 85.

However captured T-34's where used in large numbers by the Germans, as where many other vehicles (some Matilda 2's in the desert changed hands multiple times). In fact there was one German SS panzer division at Kursk made up almost entirely of captured T-34's - Panzer Division 'Das Reich' I believe.

You're right. The T-34/85, Panzer IV, and Sherman 76mm are all essentially identical in the rules. The base T-34 has the same rules as the Panzer III.

I think Jerries can take T-34s using a rule from Ost Front. Will look into it and get back to you.

Not at Kursk.

Das Reich, which was a Panzergrenadier division at Kursk, had 26 T34, all of which were in the ad-hoc Anti-tank battalion and used as an additional tank battalion.

The division, on 4th July 1943, had 14 Tiger I, 33 Panzer IV, 33 StuG III and 70 Panzer III as well as the 26 T34s. Not comprised entirely of T34s at Kursk by a long way...

Well had a quick look through Ostfront and could not find it.
