I decided to turn my 40k Predator into a rhino (both use basically the same chassis, and whereas I don't really have need for a predator in my current list, I do have need for all the rhinos I can get my hands on). I am just having one problem: there is a hole on the top of the predator where the main turret is supposed to go. It's too big to put a standard circular rhino hatch on.

Any ideas?

I assume that the plate with the hole is glued down? That’s the easy way to switch between them. With the plate with the big hole, you can field it as a razorback or pred. Take it off and replace it with the top doors hatch, you have a rhino.

If that’s already glued down, you can either try to pry it loose, or scratchbuild some sort of plug.

Make a ring that sits inside the predator turret ring. You can then put a rhino hatch in that smaller ring, maybe top it with one of those communication dishes and call it a command rhino?

Alternatively you could scratch build a small turret mounting a storm bolter, search light and smoker launchers to go there?

It occurs to me: could I just leave the hole open and field it as a rhino? I put a stormbolter on the top right portion of the vehicle and a "hatch" thing type on the top left next to it.

You could do that easily. Most people frankly won't care, and those who would aren't the kind of people you'd want to play with anyway

In the event that I don't, I'm thinking that a 40k infantry base might work as an ersatz plug. Any recommendations on sizes?

Get yourself a sheet of plasticard and cut out three circles to the size of the hatch you need. Trim one to the size of the hole you need to cover( a predator hatch is roughly the size of the old standard infantry base) . Cut the second circle in half and glue both halves onto the third circle, making sure to line up the edges. Turn the whole thing over and glue the trimmed circle into the middle of the base piece. Grab some random handles from your bits box ( trust me. You will have some). Glue onto the top of the new hatch. There you have it. One scratch built top or side hatch. The pics below are from one I built in response to a similar post a while back. Hopefully they'll help.
