Hi Everyone, I'm Kris from Australia.
I run a small business making RPG tiles and tokens – and recently branched out to create a massive deluxe and double-sided fantasy city rooftop tile and mat set that was successfully funded on Kickstarter. Now I am turning my attention to creating dozens and dozens of all-new TERRAIN MATS featuring Snow, Ice, Forest, Jungle, Desert, Mountain, Tundra, Beach, Wasteland, Rock, Ocean, Caverns, Swamp, Grassy Plains and more.
I also recently made a massive rooftop tile set - and I think you guys might be interested in both of these for your war-gaming table-top needs... the rooftop tile set looked something like this and will be available around May:
But the Terrain campaign is live on kickstarter and you guys might want to take a look because its going to have over 250+ mats spread over 14 different terrains. I've already made the jungle and discussed it with a guy that wants to use them for Vietnam scenarios, since I have desrt, ice, tundra, forest, mountain and loads more, this might be an awesome way for you to load up and a tank-load of different mats pretty cheaply.
Anyway, thanks for letting me join - if you're in the market for some mats, please take a look at what I have to offer. Looking forward to reading the posts here and contributing my own from time to time.

Cheers,
Kris

Oh wow, subscribing to this to keep an eye on it.
Just curious, do you guys do any bespoke printing if the images are provided?

Thanks guys, for the welcome and compliments, I LOVE making these kinds of things and I'm hoping others like them too - enough for me to make them full time at least.
Hi - Buttery Commisar - bespoke printing? As in custom printing? I'm not sure what you mean - the terrain mats are 10x10" professionally printed mats and double-sided so you can keep them compact. With any mat pack you get the digital files for all those mats, both sides. If I changed the size of the mat, the artwork wouldn't fit - but I am thinking about offering a deal for those who buy 2 or more sets to print all 18 designs per terrain on one side of the boards and all 18 of another terrain on the other to enable 60" x 60" playing surfaces.
Did that answer your question?
Kind Regards,
Kris

Large mats printed on card stock sounds like a near miss. The PDFs are nice but having the printed version on something that isn't really foldable or waterproof seems like an odd choice. Is there an option for lamination?

There will be in the future. And thicker printed boards - and much larger boards.

Hi all - sorry to inform you late, but I cancelled the Reign of Terrain kickstarter for now to complete all the art, do hex tiles and larger boards as well. I'll be back later on in the year to relaunch.
In the meantime, I just finished designing a commissioned Lincoln Memorial for 6mm scale minis. Hopefully I can do more of this for war-gamers in the near future. Will be adding Roads, Modern and Space terrains to the Reign next time too.
See you then
Kind Regards,
Kris

Hi everyone. I'm seeking some advice. As you may know I've been working on producing a mountain of terrain tiles and have presently crafted just under 100 x 10x10 designs. Among the completed are the Forest, Jungle, Desert and Snow.
My intention as I have said is to offer these designs digitally for $1 USD each. So if you bought the entire set, it would cost approximately $84 USD (I am working on joiners which enable the terrain to fade into other types and these might add to overall expenditure by a backer as an option).
I want to offer the designs as Printed 10x10" Mats for $4 USD ea.
As Dry Eraseable 10x10" Boards for $10 USD ea.
As six-fold 27x18" boards with six designs melded into one for $35 USD ea.
As Hex Tiles measuring 3.75x3.25" for $10 USD per dozen.
And maybe if unlocked, via a Stretch Goal printed on 1/8" thick fabric surface rubber backed game mats measuring 23.5 x 28" for $50 USD ea.
(Prices approximate at this point in time - and do not include shipping.)
I'd like advice on what you think I should do as regards maybe breaking my Reign of Terrain Campaign into smaller chunks - because, thinking of the larger picture - while $275 USD for 275 digital designs is a mad steal, when it gets into the physical components side of things AND the logistics - the numbers (and work involved to ensure accuracy and delivery) start to get a bit crazy.
Couple of things to know:
The Mats are going to be double-sided. Right now I am thinking of putting Night-time versions of the design on the reverse instead of another terrain type. So 21 per set will likely become 22, and if I decide to do night versions 21 day or night tiles can be faced up at any given time. If I decide to put 11 designs of day terrain on one side and 11 designs of day terrain on the other (22) that decreases the number of mats a backer has to buy and have shipped considerably but doesn't allow larger play areas.
But for hypothetical, lets say I completed all 275 (not including the extra sets, which I think takes us to around 400 tiles.) I decide to put night versions on the reverse.
If a backer decided hey I want ALL of the 275 mats, that would be approximately cost $1100 USD + shipping.
If they wanted ALL of the Dry Erase boards, then that would be $2750 USD + shipping.
If they thought hey, I'll throw in some hex tiles, actually I'll buy all the hex tiles, and lets say that roughly 24 types per terrain, with 14 terrains, (336 types) - with obviously more than one type in each hex set, lets say 70 per set, (980 tiles) that's almost $10K + their Mat order...
I'm not suggesting everyone or even anyone is going to want all of the designs, in one or more formats but it's a possibility. Even halving those numbers is I think putting the full set of terrain out of a lot of backers hands who may not simply have $9800 lying around, but could afford a smaller amount more often over the next year if I commit to four campaigns with four terrain types + tile options per campaign.
It's not as impressive as having all of the terrain finished and available to choose from - but I'm one guy and I know my last kickstarters logistics was taxing even at that level - to bite off more than I can chew might place me in a position where I am overwhelmed by issues realting to shipping, tax, volume and communication. If you can see all that terrain but can't afford it at that time - what good is having it all there anyway?
Also if I produce just four terrain types per campaign, I can start on the hext tiles now and be ready to launch by March.
Any feedback would be appreciated on which direction I should take.
Kind Regards,
Kris
Update: I will likely do an 8x8 for the digital sets to make it easy to print each design on a standard a4 sheet.
