Hello fellow dakkas! I skchsan is back on paperhammering. Today we have a semi fluffy Alpha Legion with the following precepts:

1. NO HELLTURKEY! - not only hell turkey spamming is boring as hell, its not fun to make a list around them - cuz truth be told, its not a very good model.
2. NO DAEMONS! (except oblit) - daemons are not very Alpha-y! we can easily convert centurions and say theyre oblits.
3. OMG WHICH DO I HIT FIRST? - even those annoying and not fun to play against flyer spamming lists will not know which to hit first!

So here it is!

I like that there's a bunch of threats in your list.

I'd be worried about flyers. I also don't like the hell drake model. Can you use FW?

I find it more effective dealing with flyers with positioning rather than dedicated AA.

The "difficulty" of dealing with flyers come from having to snap fire at them, but at the same time flyers have quite limited firing angle while zooming due to their movement requirements (with the exception of hellturkey, even after nerf). The list is primarily built around linebreaker bum rush tactics that will have majority of the army within 18" of opponent's board edge.

As such, flyers are most effective against backfield camping units, in this case the oblits and havocs. The weapon loadout (i.e. range) allows me to spread them out well enough so that the opponent really has to think about his target priority. If the opponent dares to hover, there are many options to bring it down.

FW is allowed in the group, but I feel like they're also point sinks and $$ sinks so I tend to stay away from it. Any particular FW you were thinking of that can augment the list?

For something super cheap (points-wise) is the Hell Blade, its only 100 points, and while it's not survivable, it has some autocannons that can skyfire and is generally annoying. I like them.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

This I really like, every unit in the army has the potential to be very dangerous. Obviously the low model count means deployment and tactics become very important.

Regarding flyers, I like the idea of ignoring them where possible - there's only so much damage they can do in a turn, and the snap-firing means you can waste a disproportionate amount of firepower to bring them down - and still fail.

Do you have to deal with much in the way of super heavies in your group?

The hell blade has some decent rules and it's cheap points wise. The model looks a lot better than the turkey too. It would make a sexy proxy as a hell drake. Here's a thread with some pics:

There are only few knights in my local meta. The tactic would be to try to tie it up using termies or bikers and then pray to the dice gods.

It's ok if that doesn't work all the time - it's "just as planned" anyhow
