I just finished throwing this guy together out of some spare bits, but I'm absolute rubbish at deciding on colour schemes...

Ideally, I would paint the "chitin" of the hive tyrant parts in a metallic colour to simulate armour plates, but that will really only work on the legs... I don't want to paint them metal and have it look strange compared to the organic back piece I used to create the back half of his torso.

I also somewhat dislike the dusky purple gw uses on their slaanesh models.. when I try and emulate that colour scheme I just muddy it up, it's too subtle for my current skills.

Anyways, I'm just looking for perhaps some advice on painting this guy so that it all comes together and looks sort of (un) natural at the end. I've only done minor conversions up until this, and those didn't produce the same feeling of "oh cool he's finished.. but how the feth do I paint him?"

Feel free to let me know if the conversion itself is just too clunky and strange looking as well. I haven't put a brush to it yet so I can still change it. It looks cool to me, but I may have creator's bias. Criticism is constructive!

P.S. the upper limbs on the torso are supposed to be a means of flight, I'm not sure if it's believable or not. I just had the vision of a slaanesh Prince zipping in straight lines through the air with jet limbs while the other princes rely on slow, not as agile wing beats. Also, I've made a lash of despair for him not pictured here.

Thanks in advance, dakka!

Apologies for the sideways pictures... posting from phone, won't let me rotate.

I'd say take a few days to practice wet blending, and then go from purple/black on the ends of the appendages all the way up to a pale pink at the top.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I suppose I do need to work on my skillz... no point in omitting colour schemes just because I can't produce results with them yet. I suppose I should pull up my pants and Git Gud.

From the ends of the appendages all the way up to a pale pink at the top, does this mean black/purple at the base of his limbs blended to pale pink at the tips of his limbs? Or do you mean the model generally, purple/black in the central area/torso blending to pink at the ends of all appendages, leaving the torso mostly purple/black and his appendages purple/pink? Or are you speaking vertically, darker in the lower areas and pale pink at high areas?

Eosgreen, Purple to white scares me, but if I practice some wet blending I can probably pull it off as well as I could do purple/black and pink. I like the way it looks, I just shy away from it when I start because I usually have a terrible time getting the result I want.

I didn't think about blending into a semi-pure pink very much, hmm..

I appreciate the comments.

think vertically, tip of the tail, arms, and legs are all purple, then you start wet blending up the limbs so the torso and head would be your daemonette hide or whatever color you ended up choosing. At least that's how I did the Daemonettes in my Nurgle/Slaanesh daemons list.

Cool conversion. feels like he needs more bling like piercings and chains.

That sounds really interesting... Do you happen to have an example picture you wouldn't mind showing me, Brennonjw?

Thanks Desubot! I have some small gems I was thinking of placing on him in various locations after paint, but I didn't think of piercings.. I'm definitely going to explore that. I also have some chain, I might wrap it around his whip + wrist or perhaps even his neck, it doesn't show too well in the pictures but his neck is a bit strange looking from certain angles. Maybe he isn't quite ready for paint yet!

What would you do with chains on this model?
