Now that Swiftclaws have lost their 2nd CC weapon they're pretty useless for melee, and with BS3 they were never that great for shooting
Does it make more sense to field bikes as Wolf Guard units? or not worth the points at all?

Swiftclaws have the benefit of more bodies and HoW attacks for an equal amount of points to WG bikers and they both have nearly equal number of attacks on the charge (3 on the charge for swiftclaws, 4 for WG. For every 4 WG bikers you have your getting 5 swiftclaws). WG have higher BS and WS which is nice but again swiftclaws have higher body count and volume of fire to compensate plus jinking puts that down to BS1 anyways. So honestly I think its roughly even for both of them with each having slight benefits and weaknesses.
WG bikers would be better in a Company of the Great Wolf detachment (having WS 5 is a big deal against most infantry) while I think Swiftclaws benefit more with Wulfen around (12" to get the Wulfen benefit is much more practical than a mere 6"). Both are decent as quick hitting melee units but lack the punch of Thunder Wolves or the numbers of Skyclaws and Fenris Wolves.

The ONLY time you should ever take Skyclaws is if a wolf priest with a jump pack is leading them to give them preferred enemy and FNP 6+. You should never take Swiftclaws. If you want to run bikes take a white scars detatchement lead by Khan so you can take just 1 squad of bikes and him. Plus they'll get access to grav guns which makes them a real formittable squad

They are pretty good naked msu in strike force armies for objective snatching. Swift and skyclaws that is.

Well, it's codex: TWC after all. If it's not supplementing TWC, it's not good.

I run 3 packs of swiftclaws in my Blackmanes army to grab objectives and retain some mobility after all of the pods land. It works out pretty well for me.

I've been using two three man packs of swiftclaws recently, using them as objective grabbers, and they work fairly well like that, so long as you are able to clear the objective before they boost onto it

So consensus seems to be naked MSUs?
TBH I was hoping for a way to make The Firehowlers formation work as a Greatpack, as I've always had a soft spot for fast Space Wolves.
What i kinda had in mind was taking my Wold Guard component as bikers, and all the Blood Claws as Sky Claws
Anyone see a way this could possibly work.... or at least not suck?

Seems to me that it could work. MSU bikes and Skyclaws that can bring hidden power fists seems like it could work. Very mobile with more models then your typical thunder wolves lists. Not sure what to do about the Land Speeders/Grey Hunters for a Firehowlers formation. Maybe cheap drop pod GH squads to try and melta a vehicle or MC? Could take the Wulfen Murderpack or the Wolfkin aux unit with them. Not exactly going to win top table at a tournament but it seems like it would pack a punch in melee and it has the legs to actually close the distance. Definitely seems fun to play as or against.

Not Quite, it's now Codex:Wulfen, with TWC on the side.

Eh, I still think its Codex: TWC with Wulfen buffing them. Wulfen provides good MSU and threat saturation. Don't get me wrong, Wulfen hurt, but anyone that I play have the S8 weapon saturation necessary to deal with them. Not to mention the mobility to work around the 3++.

I think you're slightly confused. Space Wolf bikes have legs.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Seems to me, Thunderwolf Mount is the supreme route to go. Beyond the perks between the differences from TWC and Bikes, tho jinking is handy, it's also quite fluffy to do.
They make monstrous units!
I have found great use for bikes for the runepriests for the new formation Wyrdstorm Brotherhood tho - joining them to squads then having them move into others... amazing to employ with Iron Hands how they spam units, like say Blood Claws and Razorbacks. 5man meat sheild, yes please
A squad, maybe, of bikes but in thinking it through what situation would a bike squad do better than TWC could?
Hehe my thoughts
