Jealous that Horus is Warmaster

Are the parts just from several calth box sets? It just seems like you have 11 plasma guns in it. Seems a bit overkill on the plasma and i would expect that overkill to be your own guys. I would have gone with double heavy bolters in the vet squads and put them in rhinos with sniper then a plasma support squad maybe with the chaplain to footslog with dreadnought and terminators and a flamer support squad in a rhino. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also since its not in the army list ill mention it, always go for the artificer armour. that 2+ save standing out infront of a squad can tank a lot of shots and it often for me has been a unit saver.

I know you're building to be both 30k and 40k, but PotL is a really crippling RoW. Beyond that, I wouldn't run the chaplain from BaC as a chaplain, but as any of the other centurions really as you don't really have a place for him. Beyond that Yeah, it is a bit over kill on the plasma, and I would look into getting a few regular tac. squads to open up your options tactically.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

Thankfully, magnetized arms.
This was one box of calth with extra parts.
Cheers for the advice, I'll post an improvement later.
As for PoTL, I don't have access to the books a whole lot, so Battlescribe is my goto.
What RoW would you reccommend.

The Smurf's RoW is decent, and it's also key to remember that you don't ALWAYS need a ROW. Beyond that, look at how you want your army to play and dig through those RoWs (they have summaries of all the RoWs and rules on 1d4chan, look into it, pretty amazing resource)

Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

I got my Betrayal at Calth set recently and have been trying to figure out what to do with my 3 tactical squads - I had hoped to use at least 1 that could be used as well for 40k.
I have both Ultramarines and Dark Angels armies for 40k - I was thinking of doing on squad as Dark Angels as this would mean I could use a different paint scheme of black armour instead of green in 40k.
I am trying to see what extras I would need to get from Forge World I have been doing some background reading on the web to see what the different squads can be equipped with:-
Legion Tactical Squad: 10-20 marines, can't take special or heavy weapons (could have 2 extra models to be used for 40k with special weapons missile launcher & flamer?) Nothing needed from FW
Legion Tactical Support Squad: actual source of special weapons. 5-10 marines, and all of them have flamers that can be swapped for other special weapons, do all 10 marines have the same weapon? Which weapons from FW would be the best?
Veteran Tactical Squad: Up to 10 strong only, organised the same as post heresy Tactical squads with two weapons, Special or Heavy.
I was thinking of getting the FW Ultramarines Invictarii Heads Upgrade Set and either the FW Ultramarines Legion MKIV Shoulder Pads or the shoulder pads in the GW Ultramarines Upgrade pack which I already have. Can veterans be fitted with robes or capes?
Get The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List - Would this give me enough info for my Ultramarines?
Legion Recon Squad: Power Armoured Scouts - I was thinking of using my Anvil Industries Black Ops Sniper Recon Team in the mean time.
Can Ultramarines use the following:-
Legion Scimitar Pattern Jetbike Squadron,
Legion MKIV Outrider Squadron,
Leviathan Dreadnought.
I have 40k Ultramarines and Dark Angels so does the "Legiones Astartes Crusade Army List (for all Legions)" include Ultramarines and Dark Angels?
Or do I need to get Book 5: Tempest for Ultramarines & book 6 for the Dark Angels?
Once again sorry for so many questions but I am completely new to 30k and don't want to buy the wrong things from FW.
Thanks in advance.

ok, so:
1) the crusade list has NOTHING legion specific, just the base army list, and it's due for an update soon.
2) the age of darkness legions book is the one you want, as it has UM in it.
3) the only current source for Dark Angels stuff is book 6
Every legion can generally use everything barring moritat consoles and destroyer squads.
support squads must all have the same weapon, and every weapon is good/has a use excluding the rotor cannon.
In my opinion veteran tactical squads are a really weak choice as 10-man squads of power armor die like nothing in 30k. Really the key reason to take them is if you want to run them as tactical squads for 40k. Additionally, there is no "1 special and 1 heavy" for vet. tactical squads. if you want 2 missile launchers, you can.
1st things first: when playing 30k, get out of the 40k mind set: you'll generally do better with larger units and you need to remember that 9 times out of 10 30k is not competative.
if you are just getting a single calth set, I'd probably look at doing something like this:
1 praetor (either model)
1 centurion (either model, don't run the chaplain untill you get a more dedicated stabby squad)
2 15-man tactical squads
5 p.fist + flamer termiantors
1 kheresy/fist contemptor

Thanks Brennonjw for your help and advice.
I looked up the FW website regarding what books I would need and it says:-
"You will need a copy of The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List and the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook to use this book."
But as you have said that this is going to be updated soon there would be no point in getting it at this stage anyway.
