Truly a sad day for the city & people of Toronto.

While his term of office will probably only be remembered for how it ended, Ford was a great city councillor, and a true champion of the average taxpayer.

Sad to hear of the loss of one of my favorite politicians. I'm not Canadian so I can't really speak to his governance, but as an American I loved reading about his antics.

I believe it was crack-cocaine, which is so much worse. But yeah, that's him.

Probably because he was never quite in the best shape. Died pretty young though, and cancer is always a bad way to go. Condolences to his family.

It was indeed crack.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

What a crazy, entertaining fether. I had put him in his mid 50s, though.

RIP, maynard.

It's just a crying shame that he'll likely only end up being remembered for his faults, rather than for how well he truly served the people of Toronto, and above all else, respected the taxpayer...

In 3 short years as Mayor, he managed;
- End the disgusting & excessive waste of taxpayers money and the rightly dubbed "gravy train".
He reigned in councillors budgets, and put a stop to idiotic nonsense such as taxpayer's money being used for personal expensive coffee machines & $15,000 retirement parties.

- Brokered a 4 year deal with city outside workers, saving taxpayers a bundle AND avoiding a garbage strike in the process. (a feat that both the Millerites & Lastman administrations abysmally failed to do)

- Privatised garbage collection for half the city, again saving taxpayers a truckload of money. (and the private contractor has been a marked improvement of service to boot!)

- Scrapped the $60 vehicle registry tax

- Kept his promise not to raise property taxes initially, and then only very modestly after two years

As well as his numerous community commitments, and generally being a politician who actually worked for the people, instead of viewing taxpayers as a meal ticket.
He'll be sadly missed, and leaves behind a wife and two young children.

RIP to a great individual.

Stay Classy Canada

I'm definitely no fan of Ford's policies but this kind of gak needs to stop. Too soon to attack the character of a dead man.

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
