Have there been any large scale battles between Daemons and Necrons?
Necrons and Tau are the only factions I have never heard of being effected by a large scale Daemon invasion.
To clarify: looking for full scale warp storms on a tomb world Daemons raining from the skies kind of conflicts.

None that I am aware of. Since Necrons and Tau have no signature in the Warp, there is not only little reason for Daemons to attack them, but probably not enough "energy" or whatever to keep that large a Daemon force Stable in the material Realm.
Come to think of it, the few Necrons/Tau vs Daemon stories I know of have some other (usually human) faction involved as well.
There was a cool story I read once (but can't remember what codex it's in) where Grey Knight were protecting this relic on a hive world that came under attack from Nids. When the Daemons showed up, the Nids initially ignored them as they instinctively knew they coul dnot be consumed (no true bio-matter). But soon the Nids began to see the Daemons as a rival predatory and suddenly there was a 3-way battle between Nids, Daemons & GK (all other humans in the hive city had been destroyed by this time)

The first part is correct. Most clashes between daemons and Necrons/Tau have been minor. However, the "energy" for a large daemon force being provided by the souls of the creatures they're attacking isn't how daemons work. Yes, that can help, but warp storms can pop up in any part of the galaxy, and where the warp is turbulent, a daemonic incursion can happen.
Personally I think it's a wasted opportunity because a large scale conflict between daemons and one of the two "non-warp," science factions would make a nice contrast.

There is a tomb world which has been corrupted by Chaos, by Slaneesh IIRC.
Farsight fought Chaos on Arthas Moloch, and in the game Fire Warrior, tau fight Chaos, too.
Tau have a signature in the Warp, but a tiny one.

I wish that was how GW wrote fluff, but no, humans have to be involved somehow.

Alien perspectives are really difficult to write, because they're alien. It's hard enough for the average license fiction author to convey realistic human motivations and perspectives, let alone expect them to convey the motivations of ethereal monsters and deathless killer robots.
Humans are the protagonists in the books because they are easier to write, and easier for readers to understand and identify with. Not because GW hates the non-human factions.

I agree that it's not because GW hates non-human factions. I do think that it's because most GW writers are lazy and risk averse. In the early days, GW writers took a lot more risks with the stories they told, and the fluff was much better because of it. The non-human probably is far from insurmountable.
Solution:
Make the protagonists humans serving Chaos on the side of the daemons.
Alternate solution:
As far as alien races in 40k, Tau are some of the most sympathetic and human-like, so I don't think Tau protagonists would be too hard. It takes an iota of talent and imagination, so 80-90% of BL writers probably couldn't pull it off, but I think the top tier writers could manage.
And this is just if you're writing a full book. For background fluff, everything can be written third-person-omniscient, so there's no need for an alien POV.

Most Necron Tomb Worlds are defended by devices similar to the Pylons of Cadia, which stabilize the local Warp. This prevents invasions from the Warp, to a greater or lesser degree. Null Field Matrices are fairly common, if temperamental, examples of Necron tech.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |

Vorketh was the Tomb-World invaded by Daemons in 919.m41.
On the Necron territory map Vorketh is shown as a dormant tombworld, so presumably the Necrons lost that battle. Vorketh sits within the territory of a now active dynasty however, so it's possible they simply abandoned the planet.

Also the GK died alongside the humans before the Daemons appeared, then it was a full Tyranids vs Daemons fight, which the Tyranids won.

I really like this explanation. Unfortunately, since it is reason to prevent 2 armies from interacting with each other, albeit in a broader narrative, it's subject to be removed by GW at any time. I still really like it, though.

Daemons have invaded Tomb Worlds before, Null Field Matrices still have limits, they aren't 100% Daemon proof.
