As I continue to build my Night Lords I am trying to spec out the most economical HQ.
It's very tricky with NL because you want your HQ alive the whole game (due to Rite).
So far I have come up with:
Centurion - Jump Pack, Claws, Refractor Field - 105
Praetor - Term, combi-melta, Paragon Sword - 155
or the really cheap:
Centurion - Artificer, Refractor, Glaive - 85
just wondering how you folks spec out an HQ at 1000 pts?

ok, so first things first, if you're planning on using a rite of war, then you NEED one of a few HQs: Praetor, 1st captain, or the centurion that gives you the ability to take a RoW (the name escapes me). Secondly, keep it cheap, yes, but don't skimp on survivability 2+4++ minimum since no one has eternal warrior. The best way to trim on cost in general is to limit yourself when it comes to CCWs.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field. |

The Legion Delegatus, who is a cheap upgrade that gives you a free MC weapon, which would probably be best served on a Chain-Glaive. Really no reason not to take that weapon.

Heralds are a good cheap HQ choice to buff your army, delagatus are also good for smaller games, personally I like the Legion champion for smaller games myself, can be quite beefy.

Unfortunately you cant just take a Herald in the army as they are a Support Officer.
